Ashes to Ashes...

Keeley Hawes - I wasn't sure about her when she was first cast, but she was pretty good.

Phil Glenister - fab as usual, but I can't help thinking that Gene's in danger of becoming a bit too over the top, and not in a good way. There seemed to be too many catchprhases - bollinger knickers, armed bastards (again), nancy boys etc. I'm sure all the cliched shots (his arrival, the bit with the guys on the boat) are deliberate and meant to be tongue in cheek, but again, I think tptb have got to be careful or it'll get old very quickly.

I enjoyed it, but I suppose because the audience is more in the know this time, it's going to be difficult to make it work in the same way as LoM.

That said - OMG - Zippy and George! Awesome.

And "Kiss me or punch me!" :) Heh.

But I'll be back for more.

I used to babysit for a kid who had that A&tA Prince Charming poster in his room.

Yes, definitely back for more.

I can't help but think that it had an awful lot to live up to, especially when you consider the weeks of hype we had. After all, Life on Mars was pretty wonderful and I'm sure many of us were thinking as it had the same writers and (most of) the same cast it would be outstanding tv.

I was a bit disappointed. Philip Glenister was wonderful of course, he had all the best lines as you would expect.

Nothing against Keeley, I thought she was pretty good but I was finding her annoying, and lets face it she's not as good an actress as John Simm is an actor, if you get my drift - I switched over to BBC3 to see the final episode of Life on Mars after Ashes to Ashes and there was no comparison to how much better that was.

So, I'll continue watching but I don't think I'll be buying this boxset when it comes out.

Heh. It was fun, but I actually couldn't help cringing at a few bits of it... and I don't think I was supposed to.

But then, what else is there to watch on a Thursday night?

Oh, I completely get what you mean about Hawes vs. Simm. I watched the final LoM afterwards too, and you're right, it was much better.

I think they have to be careful not to turn Gene into a monstrous caricature - I mean he was one to begin with, but they're being too... knowing about it now, and there's only so much tongue-in-cheek it can take.

But I'll still be watching next week.

He can stick his tongue in my cheek any day I couldn't agree more.

LoM Finale

I also thinks that it hurts that the last episode of LoM was, in my opinion, the finest episode of the series. The entire last 30 minutes gives me shudders just thinking about it. I am gonna give AtA and Keely Hawes a little time to find their feet.

Yeah, that final episode was quite something - the bit where Sam jumps and the music swells still sends shivers up my spine!

I'm going to give A2A time, too - I mean there's not much else on worth watching and it's certainly entertaining. But LoM is a tough act to follow.
