TWW 7.08 - "Undecideds"
Just watched it and, well, wow! The 2 scenes between Josh & Toby were just fantastic, and Will brought the funny! I could've lived without the China/whateverstan international plot... I remember the days when we didn't need an international crisis as a plot point on the West Wing, but, sigh, those days are gone. Still, it was a good episode, and Brad was looking gorgeous (we all love the suede jacket and jeans - more please!).
I've been waiting for Josh and Toby to patch things up for a long time. Actually, they haven't really patched anything up, but I think Josh going to see him was a big step - this is Josh trying to sort out a relationship - albeit not the one many of us want him to sort out! - Josh being someone who hasn't really worked at relationships in the past, well, not those with women, anyway - so I mark this as something more towards his emotional development. He went, knowing it wouldn't be easy - Toby didn't even want to let him in the building at first, but he kept at it anyway. And it was wonderfully painful and angsty - you can feel the depth of emotion which still exists between these characters. Even when Toby started niggling him, it took quite a while for Josh to rise to the bait. And then the "bastard" thing - Oh. My. God. This is really sad of me, but they way Brad delivered that line sent shivers down my spine - chilling and at the same time one of the sexiest things I've ever heard!! I'm a hopeless case!
And then, of course Toby threw at him the fact that he (Josh) wouldn't be coming back! Hello???!! This is Josh Lyman we're talking about. The guy who doesn't leave people, the guy who has serious abandonment issues! OF COURSE he was going to come back after that! And I like to think that was exactly what Toby wanted. Despite their differences, they're brothers (and I liked the way the word "fratricidal" came up into Toby's part of the conversation - acknowledging that fact in a weird way!) and won't be able to leave each other with this business between them unfinished. So the fact that the second scene between them was left unfinished gives me hope that we haven't seen the last of such scenes.
Oh - and Josh bringing the coffee? I really, really hope that was a deliberate shout to Josh's "coffee issues" - namely that Donna hardly ever brought him any! All I need now is for him to show up at Donna's bearing coffee and for them to have their talk and work everything out.
Mind you, if Josh Lyman turned up on my doorstep the last thing I'd be thinking about would be coffee or, you know, talking...!
It's late and my brain is clearly addled!
