Five things...
I should be marking French tests. But I'm doing this instead.
hooloovoo_42 did the ask me five questions and I'll tell you no lies! meme yesterday, and here are the questions she asked me.
1) What made you decide to go into teaching?
2) Which is the best buddy twosome - Dan & Casey, Josh & Sam or Matt & Danny, and why?
3) Austen or Dickens?
4) Did Toby do it? Give reasons for your answer!
5) Which 3 books would you take to a desert island?
1) It was a decision I thought long and hard about; probably for about 18 months in all, because I knew teaching wouldn't be an easy job. But I was just the wrong side of 40(!) and thought that as I'd probably have another 20 years or so working once both the girls were at school, that I wanted to do something that was worth getting out of bed for in the morning. The pay isn't great, but it's better than the majority of the jobs around here, and I thought it would give me a reasonable amount of security and flexibility. I also thought it was one of the few professions where my age wouldn't count against me, but it appears I was wrong on all three of those points! I honestly didn't expect it to be so hard to get a permanent job - that has really surprised me.
2) Matt and Danny, I think, with Dan and Casey running a close second. Much as WW is my fave of the three, I don't think Josh and Sam came across as "close" as Matt and Danny did. That was probably helped by the fact that Brad and Matt seemed to get along like a house on fire in real life - the bond came across as that much deeper and stronger.
3) Bloody hell, kill me now, why don't you? I adore them both, and I guess there's more Dickens to read through if I was just allowed the one. BUT - I'd have to go for Austen. Even though she only finished six novels, they're just so... perfect, and her sense of humour and sarcasm really strikes a chord.
4) I still vacillate on that one. Some days, I think he might have done, others I don't. Given the circumstances, (his brother, etc.) and the fact that Toby could be a self-righteous pain in the ass who was often frustrated with Bartlet and tried to push him to where he (Toby) thought he should be, it's plausible. And if you take the plotline and given motivations at face value it does seem as though he did it. But these aren't simple characters, and if for no other reason than I can't see Toby stooping to be so... underhand (he'd want people to know, I think!) there are times where I think there's no way he did it!
My ass is sore from sitting on the fence for so long!!
5) Only three... woe! Emma. One of the WW script books (probably the first one, but the other one would do if I happened to grab it instead!) The Way we Live Now.
I'm skewing this slightly and saying that if you want to ask me five questions, please feel free! Or if you want me to ask you five, comment to that effect, and I can do that, too!

I suppose you'd better ask me now.

Okay, so...
1) Favourite play wot Ern wrote (and why, if you feel so inclined)
2) Who was your first ever TV boyfriend?
3) Can you remember the first time you looked at Mark and Brad and thought *holy crap!*? What did it for you?
4) Why do you do the job you do?
5) Favourite place in the whole wide world. (And no, you can't answer "Bradley Whitford's bedroom!")

Okay.
1) When did you discover teh Sorkin, and what was it that did it for you?
2) You work in an unusual and highly specialised field. What was it about aerospace that attracted you?
3) Sports Night, West Wing or Studio 60 and why?
4) Favourite food
5) Chocolate or sex? ;-)

Too long a story. But I was about 5 when I saw the space shuttle for the first time - it flew over south London - and I just got into all things flying. By the time I was 10, and Challenger exploded, I was becoming more interested in the whole processes so I started learning more about it at school and wanting to find a way to get into it eventually. Natural progression, I guess.
I mooch between Sports Night and The West Wing depending on my mood. I think it depends on whether I'm going through something heavy professionally - that's when I prefer The West Wing. I like seeing people I know. I somehow feel that someone got our lives.
Anything Italian - including real ice cream.
Chocolate fed to me by Josh Groban.

2. Can you name a time when that quality got you into trouble?
3. Who came up with your children's names (you, Mr. Caz, random third party intervention) and were they named after anyone?
4. If you could either speak to Brad Whitford on the phone weekly, but never see him in person OR get to watch him on stage monthly but never speak to him directly (nor stand by the stage door in the hopes that your eyes would meet!), which would you choose?
5. What is your earliest childhood memory?
Ask me, too, please... I'll get to it as soon as I'm able.

1) Which three books would you take to a desert island?
2) Name one thing about your partner that drives you up the wall
3) If you get into law school, what do you plan on doing when you've finished?
4) Who was your first ever crush?
5) Sex or chocolate?

2.He's lazy when speaking. By which I mean, he'll use double negatives and say good instead of well... that sort of thing. It's not that he doesn't know the correct way to say these things, it's just that he sometimes doesn't think about it. Drives me crazy because I want to correct him but I know that that would a) be really annoying and b) completely embarass him in front of his friends, so I have to keep my mouth shut.
3. Patent law, specifically pharmaceuticals. I know that a lot of people look down on pharm. companies, but there are two sides to every coin - even the evil, money-grabbing ones. Anyway, I have a degree in Biomedical Science and I really love pharmacokinetics (the biochemical processes that result from a drug or toxin being introduced into the body), so I figure that'll be a field where I could find work fairly easily given my background.

5. Sex. I'm not a huge chocolate eater. I mean, I like it and there are times when I have a craving for it, but I could go without it for longer than without sex, I think.

4. Who was your first crush?
Oh, God - I honestly haven't got a clue. I'm sure there were early ones. I remember getting 'married' to some boy on the school yard in first grade... but I don't recall his name. My first tv crush was probably Jonathan Brandis from SeaQuest. I had a poster of him over my bed when I was about eleven.
