It's no good - I have to ask

Something's niggling me about Fringe. Well, something other than the fact that we've now got to wait until bloody January to find out what the hell Nina's playing at!

Are we to assume, from Peter's comments about wanting to get "home", that the universe we've been watching since the beginnning of S4 is one we haven't yet seen? At the end of S3, Peter was wiped from existence in "our" universe and (I assume) all the others. So have we been watching "our" universe in which Peter died aged 8, or has he reappeared in a different one?

Or does he think that he's not where he should be because he hasn't realised yet what really happened when he stepped into the machine?

*iz confused*

I haven't watched the latest ep, but I've thought all the way through that this isn't really *our* universe. I know that most of the same things have happened in the past, but I think that Olivia is different in this universe. And the little we've seen if Nina is different, too.

I really need to finish the next 2 seasons of Grey's so I can catch up. But if there's no more Fringe until January, I need to ration myself, so getting hooked on Grey's is a good thing!

I'd assumed that we're still in the blue 'verse, but with Peter having died when he was a kid. But his comments about needing to get home started me wondering. The main thing is that nobody seems to know, so at least I haven't missed something!

Don't watch the last ep until after Xmas, or you'll be shouting at the telly because of the cliffhanger!

I don't watch it enough to even attempt an answer, so I asked hubby, who does watch regularly.

His reply? "I have no effin idea what universe we're supposed to be in to be honest" which I guess sums it up, huh? lol

Heheheh! You really should try watching. It's very character driven and although it's confusing at times, it's always entertaining.

And there's also Joshua Jackson to look at when you can't be bothered to try to work out what's going on!

I'm in two minds if even hubby is confused, since he watched Lost right to the end, lol

I'll think about it though, if I ever have any spare time of course

I've been wondering the exact same thing actually, but that's kind of why I like the show so much to be honest, because nothing is ever quite what it seems and even when you think you've got a handle on things, your notions can be turned on their head... which is just a long-winded way of saying, I don't know, sorry.

I love it, too and it's not really a major deal - I was more wondering if I'd missed something by way of explanation. But if everyone else is confused, too, then I'm in good company!

I'm worried that he thinks he's in the wrong universe, but that it is his universe but the timeline has totally changed because he didn't survive being brought across from the red universe. So it's still blue, but he doesn't realise that it is because the time line totally changed. BUT, I thought a time line change like that branched us out into a new timeline i.e., a new universe. There is much confusion over at TWoP about this, and no one can really decide or be sure. The general understanding had been that the Amber'verse was altered blue with the bridge to red, but when Peter said that, it kind of shook that understanding. So now I iz also confused (well, even more than I generally am. Fringe makes me feel stupid in ways even TWW didn't manage. At least there was a *possibility* of learning everything that Josh, Toby et al knew).

I don't think Peter really knows anything since he stepped out of the machine. I think he had a moment of understanding and then *poof* he vanished. It seems like he's forgotten stuff that's probably there just out of his grasp atm. I I thought he was aware of being in limbo, but from what he said when told about him appearing to Walter, he wasn't aware of that. Maybe it was just a moment and then he popped out of the lake? It seems like he's seen the future - which makes it so much sadder because he seems to be mourning his missing wife rather than just the woman he'd known 3 years. I think he's also terrified of going for the wrong Olivia again, so he's got major blinders right now. I'm scared that she is *his* Olivia, that the person he's trying to get back to is right in front of him, but he'll not realise. If she were some random other version of Olivia, there's no reason for her to have dreamed about him.

I am intrigued by these new versions of the characters, but I also really miss our originals. It does raise really interesting questions on what makes us who we are. I feel like I loved that particular combination of experiences that made up *our* Olivia and Walter... these ones aren't quite the same. On the plus side, I do, for once, really trust TPTB since they love the characters too, and they aren't stupid.

Anyway, this was much rambling to say that even though I read very interesting theories on Fringe daily at TwoP, I've got no freaking idea what's happening now :-) But Peter is back to bring teh pretty so it's all good :-)

I'd assumed from the beginning of S4 that we were in the blue 'verse, albeit one in which Peter had died when he was supposed to have done. You're right - he can't really know exactly where he is, so he could well be mistaken about his need to return home.

I really do love this show. I just wish someone could convince the USians not to have such bloody big gaps between episodes!

I had assumed because of the amber credits that this was a different universe, but I don't think I'd thought it through really. I don't know what I'd based it on beyond the credits, anyway!

[identity profile] 2011-11-30 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the new colour in the credits did make me wonder, but then I thought it was too obvious. But tptb are devious and probably want us second-guessing ourselves... ;)

[identity profile] 2011-11-30 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was pondering this myself but i think that the thing that is most telling is that the credits are a new color. I think that confirms that it's a new 'verse.

I did notice the different coloured credits and wonder - but then I thought it was a bit too obvious. But then these guys are devious, so it's probably what they want us to think...
