In which Caz uses lots of italics in a fit of indignation...

I just heard a story on the news about how four women had been in court today and were found guilty of encouraging two toddlers to fight each other. I mean fight - like, hit and punch each other in the face.

Yes. You read that right.

Not only did these women encourage the kids to fight. They filmed it.

You read that right as well.

In the footage, a boy in a nappy (aged 2) was called a "wimp" for not hitting his sister (aged 3) back after she struck him.

Oh, and did I mention one of the women was the kids' mother, another their grandmother and the other two were their aunts?

The father, who's been serving in Iraq apparently found the video, and handed it to the authorities.

The grandmother told police - "I didn't see any harm in toughening them up - I done the same with my own children."

As if that wasn't bad enough (and no, I wasn't just talking about the grammar) these women got a one year suspended sentence and 100 hours community service.
What. The. Fuck?

This is child abuse! Plain and simple. The judge said the women didn't pose a threat to society. Well, yes, I can see that, but these women need to be punished and somehow made to see that what they did was wrong! Yes, the prisons are overcrowded, and there are lots of people there who probably shouldn't be there - I mean, locking someone up for not paying their television licence? Yeah, great idea. Those are the people who should be out doing the community service, not these bloody women, who are clearly deranged!

If I hadn't been driving when I heard the news of this, I would have done something other than shout a lot of rude words.

I suppose they are in favour of bringing back bear baiting and legal dog-fights.

Yeah - and why we're at it, let's go the whole hog and bring back cock-fighting as well.

These poor kids - being brought up to think that violence is the norm. Thank god this was stopped before they were older - there's a chance that the (mental) damage done to them can be repaired.

Living with relatives like that, I think they'd be lucky to grow up without some form of psychological damage.

I think they're now living with the father's parents. I'd hope they'll be removed from the mother and her family permanently.

I don't know, encouraging toddlers to beat each oher up sounds pretty threatening to me.

I hate people.

I hate people.

Pretty much with you on that one.

But those poor kids... there are times when I really think people should have to take a test before they're allowed to become a parent!

It makes me sad that I coexist with people like this in the world.

[identity profile] caz963.livejournal.com 2007-04-20 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Sad, pissed off, all those things. I was utterly stunned when I heard this on the news. I mean, my kids fight (natrually!) but this... *shakes head*

I know.....

Stupid YouTube.

The judge said the women didn't pose a threat to society.

At least not until the kids are old enough to inflict some real damage. And I believe we have several choice examples from the news this week to illustrate my point....

Stupid YouTube.

Oh God, I hadn't even considered that! I bet the video will turn up.

And yes, this is just the kind of thing we need - teaching kids that young that violence is the norm. I just hope they've been stopped in time to reverse the mental damage.

I'm seriously of the opinion that phones with cameras are more dangerous than guns because people think that doing stupid things just to video them is OK.

[identity profile] zinke.livejournal.com 2007-04-20 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. In the States we now have TV adverts from the local cable company encouraging and applauding such behavior in an effort to sign on more high speed customers. *headdesk*

Idiocy on tape; joy. Just what I've always wanted preserved for all of posterity.

Oh my gosh. This is sad. And I tend to think that it's just the U.S. that has an over-abundance of pointless violence...
It is amazing that just anyone can go off and pro-create -- don't mind us, just feel free to screw up the little darlings any way you please. I do feel very sorry for the kids.

Why is it people like that are allowed to have children? They should be immediately stopped from reproducing again.

Here's the thing that worries me. If they are doing this now when the kids are 2, what are they going to do to them later. ::shudders::

[identity profile] caz963.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 07:38 am (UTC)(link)

Exactly. If you want to adopt a child you're subject to all sorts of checks, regulations etc... but giving birth to your own? Anyone can do that. This sort of thing just makes me sick. No wonder society in general is becoming more violent.
