Effing b****cks!!

AARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Bloody technology!

One of my USB memory stick thingys has died. It was fine yesterday, but today - kaput. Luckily, most of the stuff that was on it was backed up - it was mostly fic - mine and stuff I'm beta'ing for other people. But there were two documents on it that I hadn't had a chance to back up, that included big chunks of newly written stuff.

Bugger.

I only wrote it yesterday, so hopefully, I'll be able to dredge it up from my brain.

But if anyone out there, who's far more techno-savvy than I am (which, let's face it, is practically EVERYBODY!) has any ideas, I'd be only too pleased to hear them!

:(

So sorry to hear about your USB stick. I had the same thing happen to me a little while ago and unfortunately there was nothing to do - fingers crossed that someone will be able to help in your case!

I've found some recovery programs, but I think they're going to take forever... and I don't know if they'll work, but I'll give it a go.

Bum! Sorry to hear it. It happened to me a while back and several people recommended a programme called PC Inspector Smart Recovery. It didn't do anything for me, but the things I was trying to recover were mostly huge .avi files. It may be more successful for documents.

I'm just trying to recover a couple of Word documents. I've found some programs online, so I've downloaded one and am giving it a try. But it's taking forever and I don't even know if it's going to work...

I use these USB sticks as back ups, but occasionally, if I'm working on the laptop, I save stuff straight on to them and then transfer it to the PC later. But yesterday, I just didn't get around to it. I'm so pissed off. Like I said, it's not much, but it's fresh stuff I wrote yesterday, and whilst I can sort of remember it, it's still a pain in the bum. :(

Eeek! *runs off to back up all fic files*

I too am tech-challenged, so can be of no practical help whatsoever. I will however try to send you some inspirational and encouraging thoughts from across the pond.

Thanks luv. I've found some recovery programs online so I'm trying one, but it's slooooooowwwww... so I could be here for days.

Lucky I sent you back that latest draft yesterday!

It really is only two documents I'm after - the doooooom one, and the, you know, other one because I wrote some of both yesterday. And yes, I can more or less remember what I wrote, I still hate having to do it again! Grrrrrr!!

You can always try the old "the dog ate my homework" excuse ;-)

Well, yeah, I guess... were it not for the fact that I'd be making excuses to myself!

Well, you are the teacher!

Nooooo!

Somtimes I find that a low-tech solution - such as giving the thing a good smack - will do the trick. At the least, it might make you feel a bit better.

[identity profile] caz963.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I tried the smack, the shouting, the talking nicely and the threatening. Nothing worked so far... (The recovery program is still running. I'll have to leave it overnight and hope.)

Once I've exhausted those options, I usually move on to the pulling of the plug, but in this case I doubt that would help much.

*hopes with you*

For all its benefits, technology can be such a pain in the ass sometimes.
