Much Ado about not a lot.
Yesterday was humid and rather overcast, but in any case, I headed off to London to meet up with
canterlevi to join her on the first stage of her "operation Fangirl" (!) trip. We nattered a fair bit (surprising, I know!) and then traipsed around Tate Modern, where I duly took the piss out of several installations and pieces of so-called sculpture. I'm such a philistine, but really, what else do you call a piece of "art" that is essentially an irregular octagonal piece of white paper stuck onto a pale grey wall other than I'm sorry - you've missed a bit?!
I tend to prefer paintings.
After that it was food, more nattering and then heading off for the fangirling part of the expedition at Wyndham's. I'll post a more considered review of the play and the serious stuff later, but I can't let today go any further without making the following completely unobjective observations about David Tennant:

I'll post a more considered review of the play and the serious stuff later, but I can't let today go any further without making the following completely unobjective observations about David Tennant:
- The man lights up the stage in a way very few actors can. (IMO)
- He's having a blast and isn't afraid to show it.
- He has impeccable comic timing - not that that's news to many of us, but if anyone needed to be convinced, this is the thing that'll do it.
- For a skinny sod he has a great pair of legs on 'im!
- Ditto about his arse. But then I've said that before. Lots of times.
- He can wear those denim cut-offs all the time and he'll get no complaints from me whatsoever. Did I not mention the thighs?
- I wouldn't object to the dress whites with the sword, either. (*Insert jokes about David Tennant's sword here!*)
- Someone - probably a woman - should tip him the wink about how to sit down when wearing a mini-skirt. i.e, not with your legs wide open!! (Um, yeah... do I really mean that one?!)
- He is a gorgeous, gorgeous man. Again, this is not news. But I think it's something that certainly bears repetition.
More later.

In my opinion too. The production was lively, but when he was on the stage everything went up a gear.
not with your legs wide open!!
Yes, I thought that too *g*.

Although given that both men appear to have difficulty actually sitting, I imagine it's neither and just how they are!
That said though, Brad was at least wearing a suit. David was wearing what appeared to be black knickers and lacy leggings under a very short and very tight denim mini-skirt :-)

Also your description of your time at the Tate Modern made me nod my head violently in agreement. That place makes me want to mock people.
(also, any chance you'd be able to come into London for the day on a week day in late August? I'm not sure when you go back to school but I will be around for a wedding and it would be lovely to catch up)

It would be fab to be able to meet up. I'm not back at work until early Sept. Email me - caz963@hotmail.co.uk - and maybe we can sort something out.

I wish I could see the play, I bet it was gorgeous. Well it has DT and CT in it, of course it was gorgeous. ♥
I swear this man makes me fangirling like a 15-year-old. :D

I suppose diagrams would be better, but I can't draw :( Someone, somewhere MUST have pictures of him in those denim cut offs. It's a crime to think that such an awe-inspiring sight can't be shared with the world.

Yep, same here. And I'm MUCH older than that!
(I posted a "proper" review here (http://caz963.livejournal.com/453469.html) if you're interested.

And I'm MUCH older than that!
hehe, me too. ;)
People I know in RL have no interest in fangirlish things (they don't even know DT), so I'm glad that I can at least squee on LJ like proper fangirl. :D

I saw it (twice!) a few weeks ago (July 10 and 13) and of course LOVED it! And yeah, I have to agree with you on pretty much all counts here. He's such a brilliant physical commedian too and this play really reminded me of that. His timing and his facial expressions/body language are FLAWLESS. Now that I've seen the man on stage live I fear seeing him on the tele will never quite be the same. Catherine is equally as brilliant. And the two of them together is just amazing!
I'm hoping to go back again and try for lottery tickets once I'm finished teaching for the year on July 8th.
Okay, off to read your detailed review! Perhaps it will properly inspire me to finally write mine! :)

You're a teacher, too? What/where do you teach?
no subject
Yes I am! This year I'm teaching Year 1 at a tiny prep school in North East London (almost in Essex). I'm looking for work for next year though and hoping to find something a little closer to town! (I'm actually Canadian but I moved to London last July to come teach over here for a bit and I LOVE it!)
What/where do you teach?

LOLOLOL OMG. I actually used to LIVE in Chingford - right near Chingford Mount. I work in South Woodford right now and I currently live near Manor House/Finsbury Park (I moved about a month and a half ago). What a small world!

Ipswich is... well, like most places, it has it's nice bits and it's not so nice bits. Unfortunately, the school I'm at is in the latter; it's quite a deprived area so it's a tough school.

I haven't been to Ipswich but I did do some research into it when I was considering a job there. Tough schools can be rewarding but they're also incredibly stressful. Are you finished for the year soon at least?

you should read the review beachy wrote when we went to see it. to say it focusses rather a lot on everything below his waist would be the understatement of the year, lol

and the dancing? he was thrusting his crotch literally a couple of feet in front of our faces!

There is fangirling of a slightly more serious nature in my longer review if you're interested.

I would sign that petition! To be honest what I really want is for it to come to NYC. I don't think there's much chance of it but I would have tickets in hand 5 minutes after the announcement.
I did read your longer review but it's hard to have anything to say to it without sounding terribly envious. Your description of the chair scene alone is enough to make me green.

I laughed tears during the play (last Monday's performance) and just confirmed why I love David (and Catherine) so much! Marvelous actors and adorable human beings.
