I have spent most of this week telling myself NOT to slip into an American accent by mistake. I'm a natural mimic, and I have a good ear for accents - it's something I've been able to do (although I admit I've not yet mastered anything Welsh!) since I was a kid. But it's gotten me into trouble at times, when I've unconsciously started speaking to someone in "their" accent.

Although - and I know this sounds stupid - I've actually been thinking in an American accent. I mean, I hear the words I want to say in my head that way, if that makes any sense at all.

But I've done okay. I've managed to restrain myself and not piss anyone off.

BUT... tonight.

What did I do?

Yes, ladies and gents, I snarked Bradley Whitford. In an American accent.

In ny defence, I should point out that it was all his fault :-) (And he said I was pretty good!)

ETA - things have come to a pretty pass when the guy at the theatre box office starts calling you by your first name.

Is all I'm sayin'.

And in one of those weird quirks of fate,

But does this mean that New Yorkers sound like Brits?!! Because there's something seriously wrong with someone's ears if they really think that's the case!

What American accent do you have?

New York City. You are most definitely from New York City. Not New Jersey, not Connecticut. If you are from Jersey then you can probably get into New York City in 10 minutes or less.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?
