caz963: (Eleven & Idris)
I read something today which reminded me of a comment I'd made concerning the current series of DW.

themes and plots... )

My last post about the last ep of DW was more about all the unanswered questions that have been left hanging for three months rather than the episode itself, so now I've had a chance to rewatch it, I've got More Thoughts.

So let me show you them )
caz963: (DW Idris - alive)
Predictably, I’ve got more to say about The Doctor’s Wife. I was so “up” after it finished, and I knew I was missing things out or glossing over things in the post I wrote after the episode aired so I wanted to come back to them and mull over them for a bit.

thinky-thoughts this way )
caz963: (Donna UW)
I've tried to hide spoilers in this. I'm not saying anything that's not in the public domain, but just in case...

Okay. As a way of trying to stop myself from thinking too hard about what might or might not happen in next week's DW, and about what might be this (highlight to read) thing that will make us look at the series' mythology differently (according to the current issue of DWM) I've decided to post about something that's been bothering me increasingly over the past few weeks.

Here's the thing... )
caz963: (Eight)
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been on a marathon listening session to some of the Big Finish Doctor Who Audios. Listening to them is something I’ve been meaning to get around to for ages, but as usual, there never seems to be enough time to do/listen to/watch/read everything I want to get around to and things fall off my list.

But - having listened to the odd one or two last summer I decided to make the effort and put several on my mp3 player – it’s a nice way of passing the time when I’m doing the ironing! Not being overly familiar with Six or Seven (I seem to remember that they arrived around the time that the Beeb moved DW from Saturday tea-times to weekday evenings, and I wasn’t always able to watch) I started with the Eighth Doctor. (I had a bit of a thing for Paul McGann back in the 90s. *g*)

There will be spoilers behind the cut.

Lots and lots of waffling about Doctor Who in Audio form )
caz963: (eleven TPO)
I feel like I’m taking my life in my hands by writing this, but it’s been on my mind since I began reading the various reactions to the Comic Relief DW special and I wanted to try to explain why I’m not as “up in arms” about it as some people are.

Things like this tend to happen when I'm at home ill, because I get more time to think than normal. So I'm sure you'll be glad to know that I'm on the mend and will be returning to work shortly!

I read a blog post the other day (sorry, but I can’t remember where it was), the subject of which was Ten things we love about Russell T Davies’ Doctor Who.

And it reminded me that I’ve been meaning to do something similar for ages. Though he left Doctor Who more than a year ago, there’s no denying that RTD left his mark on British telly in more ways than one – although DW is, of course, the best known and biggest dent!

But there are a couple of non-DW things I wanted to mention because they made a real impression on me, so they're in here as well.

I struggled with putting these in order – and decided in the end that it’s impossible. So without further ado – and in no particular order –

Ten Things For Which I Will Always be Grateful to Russell T Davies.

lots of fannish rambling under the cut )
caz963: (DW Ten coat)
Having seen and been inspired by the housekeeping posts made by some of my f-listees, I thought I should probably have a look through all the fandom-related rambling I did in 2010 and see if it warranted organising. To my surprise, there was quite a lot of it.

Here, then are the thinky-thoughts, reviews, picspams, fanfic and meta that I posted last year:

Picspams. Mostly David Tennant centric! )

Having rewatched A Christmas Carol earlier, I've had a few more thoughts and think I might have been able to put my finger a bit more firmly on why I'm rather ambivalent about it.

caz963: (Sherlock (flare))
I’ve been feeling like crap for the past few days so I haven’t felt like doing much. Even reading a book has seemed like too much of an effort when I can hardly manage to keep my eyes open for longer than half an hour at a time. Instead I’ve found myself sticking audio books on the mp3 player and dozing in and out of them. On the downside, it means I’ve missed huge chunks of them, but on the upside, who could complain about going to sleep and waking up again to the dulcet tones of gentlemen like David Tennant and Richard Armitage?

There is method in my madness.

long ruminations on this week's Sherlock and some obvious parallels with another know-it-all who needs a companion )
caz963: (splody tardis)
Um. Well, I’m not sure what to make of that, actually. I enjoyed it, but – it left me feeling a bit flat, and I’m trying to work out why.

bang, bang! )
caz963: (respect the thing)
Like everyone else, I’ve been reading and thinking and re-reading and thinking some more in the hope of coming up with a theory as to what the hell is going on and how on earth our hero is going to get out of this one!

there will be spoilers ahead... )
caz963: (crikey!)
It's taken me a while to cull my masses of random thoughts on the episode into something vaguely resembling a coherent post. And it's still probably not that coherent - more of a ramble about stuff that happened. I've only watched it once so far, so I'm sure there's stuff I've missed.

there was a goblin... or a trickster... )
caz963: (Doctor Rocks)
I'd been planning to wait until after the finale to write a plot-related post, but what I'm going to say will probably have been Jossed by then, so I thought I might as well write and post it now.

a crack too far... )
caz963: (VG hayfields)
I've had a few more thoughts about the episode since I posted my review on Saturday. I haven't had a chance to rewatch it yet, so I'm going on what I remember from just the one viewing,

caz963: (Ten Tardis)
I’ve been having a lot of fun lately sticking my oar into various discussions about the new series of Doctor Who - mostly along the lines of what the hell is going on? - speculating, theorising about the crack in the universe, the village that time forgot, why River Song was arrested in the first place and whether we should have a-whip-round to buy Karen Gillan some acting lessons and a pair of leggings… you know the sort of thing.

In which I ponder many things and even manage to get in some musical metaphors along the way! Oh - and by the way, it's VERY long. )
caz963: (eleven)
I didn’t get to watch yesterday because I was out, so I’ve done my best to avoid reading too much about the episode.

I think that was the best episode of the new series so far – and Simon Nye needs to write more Doctor Who.

Have you swallowed a planet? )
caz963: (Eleven worse than aunt)
There has already been speculation as to why Eleven wasn't keen on the idea of running into Casanova.

Heh. I do like a good in-joke.

Reminds me - I really must finish that bloody crack!fic I started ages ago. *waits for [livejournal.com profile] zinke to slap me about a bit!*

Anyway. On to this week's episode.

No, I kissed her front )
caz963: (angel)
This is more of a muddle of thoughts I’ve written down as a result of watching Flesh and Stone than it is an actual recap of the plot. You all saw it – you know what happened, right?

there might be some spoilers lurking under here )
caz963: (hotlips omg)
Well, that was... the best episode of the new series (so far).

Hello, sweetie! )
