Having seen and been inspired by the housekeeping posts made by some of my f-listees, I thought I should probably have a look through all the fandom-related rambling I did in 2010 and see if it warranted organising. To my surprise, there was quite a lot of it.

Here, then are the thinky-thoughts, reviews, picspams, fanfic and meta that I posted last year:

So, the Season 2 finale. Cybermen, Daleks and Rose’s departure. Epic stuff.

I like the way both Army of Ghosts and Doomsday open with Rose’s narration – This is the story of how I died is just… chilling.

I'd planned to do a review and spam of both episodes in one post, but ... I've gone a bit overboard with the pretty pictures, so it'll have to be two.

Who you gonna call? )

Love and Monsters doesn’t really get a lot of love, but I confess, I’ve got a bit of a soft-spot for it. Even though it’s the first NET (Not Enough Tennant!) episode, I rather like the concept of seeing the Doctor through the eyes of an “outsider.”

I think this may be the first time I’ve seen The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit since the first time they aired. There are large chunks of both episodes I didn’t recall this time, which again, I can only put down to the fact that I usually watch the show with my kids who had (and still have!) a tendency to disrupt my concentration at important points!

But I do remember that I really enjoyed this two-parter. It was scary and exciting and thought-provoking – I mean, come on. The Doctor versus the Devil! How awesome is that?!

Yes, I know this is out of the running order, but we’ve got two different channels here showing repeats of the second series of Doctor Who ! I didn’t get to watch Tooth and Claw when it was on last week, but I caught it last night instead.

I haven’t got much to say – I’m tired for one thing, and for another, the amount of sheer gorgeousness on display melted my brain, so all I’m going to do is spam you with some of that.

We are not amused. )

I didn’t get to re-watch The Idiot’s Lantern when it was on the other night, so I watched it earlier tonight.

I’m trying to think of some pithy comments to make about the Cybermen two-parter – Rise of the Cybermen and The Age of Steel - but I seem to be all out of pith.

It’s Ten’s first two-part story and I remember cheering when I saw the Cybermen in the trailer the previous week. I’m a sucker for the return of old enemies.

This one is more of a straightforward adventure story, with the Doctor, Mickey and Rose stuck in an alternative universe where Rose’s Dad is still alive, her parents are rich – but they’ve never had any kids.

I'd call you a genius, except I'm in the room. )

I think I’m about to commit Doctor Who heresy when I say that I just don’t ‘get’ The Girl in the Fireplace. Or more precisely, that I don’t get what it is about that particular episode that puts it at – or near – the top of so many people’s “best of” episode lists.

I'm the Doctor. And I just snogged Madame de Pompadour! )

As the lovely Mr Tennant pointed out yesterday, BBC Three ‘occasionally’ (which is probably some sort of Time Lord code for ‘all the time’!) repeats Doctor Who. They’re currently re-running all his episodes, and tonight aired what is one of my favourites - School Reunion, aka ‘The One with Sarah-Jane Smith. I’m pretty sure that by the time this episode aired, the SJA was in production, or had at least been green-lit, so this was also kind of a set-up episode for that as well as an opportunity to explore just what ‘life-after-the-Doctor’ means, and to delve a bit deeper as to how the Doctor thinks of his companions.
