caz963: (DW Midnight hug)
I've just read a fic over at [livejournal.com profile] doctor_donna that I enjoyed so much that I had to rush to pimp it - and you can find it here. We know that the Doctor has, at some point told River about Donna. What if he confides in someone else as well, someome who has also had to live with the fact that an important woman in his life had forgotten him? It' s a lovely read - and may induce the odd sniffle.

*pimps*

caz963: (DW Ten and Donna not from Mars)
Mondays are shitty work-wise, so it was nice to find something waiting for me on my f-list that made me smile tonight.

When Plan C Fails... is a Doctor Who / Good Omens crossover fic by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis that features Ten & Donna and Crowley & Aziraphale (with bonus Wilf and Sylvia).

It's funny, well-written and the characterisation is excellent.

Don't read it while you're eating or drinking though - there are some parts where that could be dangerous!
caz963: (J&D walk)
I’m at home again today and really should be working, but at the moment I’m procrastinating, so here’s a very quick fic round up.

caz963: (J&D actually)
It's been a few months since I've done a fic round-up, so I thought I'd get my ass in gear and do one. I'm sure you'll have seen most of these, but just in case you've missed anything, here are a pile of links anyway!

this way... )

I’m not a great reader of fic in other fandoms, but just occasionally, I spot something, or have something rec’d to me and I decide to give it a whirl, given the dearth of decent fic out there in my fandoms.

A while back [livejournal.com profile] imperviousness pointed me in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] michellek’s 30 Rock fic, and I’ve been meaning to spread the word.
She writes mainly Jack/Liz, and the voices are spot on, so if you liked the show and aren’t averse to that pairing, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Then today, I was going through my f-list and found this Heroes fic rec’d at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. The little snippet included in the summary intrigued me, so I read it. It’s the first piece of Heroes fic I’ve read, and although I doubt I’ll be delving much into that fandom, I’d definitely give anything else by [livejournal.com profile] selenak a second look, because this one is very good and very funny. (There are spoilers for the rest of the season if you’re watching it on BBC2!)

On a complete tangent - while wading through a mountain of ironing yesterday, I stuck on the TV and watched The Hudsucker Proxy, which I haven't seen in ages. I know it got a bit of a mixed reception critcally when it came out, but I really liked it (and I'll watch practically anything with Tim Robbins in) - it's worth watching for Jennifer Jason Leigh's fantastic Katherine Hepburn/Rosalind Russell impression alone!

Oh, and I finally got around to reading the latest (?) Terry Pratchett while I was away - Thud!. Fabulous as ever; he's one of those authors who just seems to keep getting better. The last half dozen or so books in particular have really impressed me, with the way he tackles quite serious subjects (this latest one dealt with fanaticism and fundamentalism of all things!) with humour and a large dollop of common sense. I'm looking forward to the next one which is out just in time for my birthday so at least I'll be able to think of something when I'm asked what I want!

Right, well now I'm off to take the kids bowling by way of a belated birthday party for Elinor.

In the absence of anything much to watch on the telly (the few shows I've been watching have all finished for the summer and Studio 60 doesn't start here for a couple of weeks), I've found myself turning to the radio a bit more...

The Now Show really should be required listening for anyone with a sense of humour and a brain - last week's item featuring Chewbacca singing Nessun Dorma made me laugh so much it hurt. I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue is still hilarious and I'm really enjoying the afternoon series on The Making of Music, which I usually manage to catch on the drive home from school. That's followed by an hour of music over on Radio 3 by the composers featured in the programme. Makes me realise how little I listen to these days and how much I miss it. *goes to dig out some CDs*

Oh - and I know that many of you aren't reading any Studio 60 fic (and with good reason - most of it's crap) - but here's a good one - Jumping out of Windows by [livejournal.com profile] imperviousness. I beta'ed it, but I'm not biased :)
caz963: (Donna)
I've been meaning to get my ass into gear and do this for a while, so finally...

I’m sure most of you have seen most of these fics, as the majority of them have been posted at LJ over the past few of months, but there might be some you missed and in any case, it can’t hurt to have the links in one handy place, can it?

As usual, this isn’t a list of everything that’s been posted – just a list of the fics I’ve read and enjoyed (and that haven’t made me want to wash my brain or poke my eyes out with a sharp stick!)

linky linky )
caz963: (huddle by lunaticlady)
Apologies if you've already seen these - but the fics written for the TWW AU Ficathon are being posted, so woot! New WW fic to read!

There are already a handful of J/D fics up, End of Days by [livejournal.com profile] christinekh - What if Mandy had stuck around and married Josh?; within county lines by [livejournal.com profile] falseeylashes - What if Donna hadn't driven to NH to volunteer, but had met Josh in Wisconsin and joined the campaign there? - and an "apocafic", east london is where all the vampires liveby [livejournal.com profile] fated_addiction.

There are lots of other fics there, too - and some still to be listed, but I read this one last night, and it's so good, I had to pimp it.

It's called - This Wartime Morality by [livejournal.com profile] black_eyedgirl. It's set in the theatre in 1950s Chicago and it's wonderfully written and a great read. Don't be put off by the pairings (Sam/Toby with background Josh/Donna, Jed/Abbey and CJ/Danny) - it's not explicit - and yes, the premise may sound a little odd, but the characterisation is excellent.

Have fun!
caz963: (mine by carissima47)
I realised I hadn't done a fic update in a while - which is probably because, sadly, there's not a lot of J/D fic being posted these days. Well, not a lot that's worth reading. God, I do sound like a grumpy ol' bitch...

I'm sure you've all read these, but here are the links in one handy place! )
caz963: (Brad b&w)
a few new fics )
There's been a dearth of good fic about lately, and I've got a backlog of stuff to check out, but if I stumble across anything really good I'll let you know!
caz963: (josh 121 by coloneljack)
I was trying to get this list finished before Christmas, so that you’d have something to read (if you wanted) before you passed out from too much turkey and pudding, but what with frantic Christmas preparations and writing porn (does that count as a Christmas preparation?) I got a bit behind on my reading and didn’t get this finished.

But anyway, in case you want something to read over New Year, before you pass out from whatever it is you’ll be eating and/or drinking then, here’s a round up of new fics.

here you go... )

Right, well, if you get any free time over the next few days I hope you find something to enjoy out of that lot!

And given that this is going to be my last post of 2006 (blimey! - where'd it go?? *blinks*) - I just wanted to wish all of you out there in LJ land a very
Happy New Year!

I've had great fun here this year, met a lot of fabulous people, made a lot of new friends and it's been a blast! Here's to more in 2007!
caz963: (JDtransition)
What with it being the end of the year and all that, I thought I’d be terribly self-indulgent and make a list of the J/D fics I’ve enjoyed most this year. I’ve tried to limit myself to one or two from my favourite authors – but as I’ve said before, you can’t go wrong reading any of their stuff.

insert witty comment here... )
Oh, and I was trying to get a list of new fic recs together for before Christmas, but real life and porn-writing intervened. So I’ll try to get it ready over the next few days, just in case any of you want some decent stuff to read to get through that period of post-festive blues!
caz963: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] gatsbyfan asked me to point in the direction of some Seasonal fics. Never one to turn down a request from my friends, here’s a short list of some of the better ones.

Jingle Bells... )
caz963: (moments by coloneljack)
Just a quickie to tell you all to RUN over to Speranza's WW fic site because there's a new J/D fic from her over there!
Hollow Lake State Park.

Don't forget to tell her you love it and beg her for more!

more links under the cut )

If I think of anything I've missed, I'll add it later.
caz963: (JoshIW)
I was looking through here and realised I hadn't done a "real life" update for a while.
the boring life stuff... )

And speaking of fic, I've been keeping track of the Studio 60 fics I've enjoyed so far. As with all the other stuff I recommended, it's only my personal opinion, so you might hate them, but here you go anyway. Of course there's a LOT of slash being written about the boys - and that's fine, it's just not really my cup of tea, but if I come across anyting particularly awesome, I'll let you know!
the interesting ficcy stuff... )
caz963: (jd perfect by coloneljack)
But I haven't! I've been quietly making a list and taking names so that I could pull together another post of fic recommendations, and here it is at last.

It’s been fairly quiet on the fic front over the last few weeks, but there have been a few things posted which I think you might want to check out if you haven’t already.
(As usual, it’s not a comprehensive list, just the stuff ... yadda, yadda...)

clicky, clicky )
Oh, and I’ve updated the list of author’s sites I made here - there are a couple of sites I forgot to add in first time round, and also both [livejournal.com profile] quaggy_mire and [livejournal.com profile] cantbesilent have made lists of fic links for their stuff, and I've added those links as well.
Aaaaand, I made a list of all my rec posts and put them in one handy place which I'll update as and when.

As usual, I think I've checked all the links, but please let me know if there are any that don't work!
caz963: (moments by coloneljack)
No long lists of fanfic recs this week, because there hasn't really been a lot going on, but here are a couple of things which have appeared recently that made me jump up and down for joy!

The Blessings by [livejournal.com profile] thestickywicket. It's a post-ep for ED1 (non-smutty), and it's fabulous to see her writing Josh and Donna again, so make sure you send her some feedback!

And by [livejournal.com profile] dianora2 a really nice J/D friendship piece set during the first Bartlet campaign - Drop in the Ocean.

Give yourself a Sunday treat and go read them NOW!
caz963: (J&D door)
I said in my last fic rec post that it was likely to be the last one for a while, because I’d pretty much exhausted the list of good JD fic. I expect there are probably a few out there I’ve forgotten, but I think I was pretty comprehensive.

Anyway, I promised I’d make a list of authors’ sites for easy reference, and so here they are.
(You've probably all found these by now, but here they are in one handy place anyway!)

Sadly, Pix took her site down, and there’s not much of her stuff left around – most of what’s left is at the Yahoo! SOTU (State of the Union) list.
Also recently departed is Puck and Zillah’s site – although they did tell me that they plan to put their fic up again, it hasn’t happened yet. Their stuff is also at SOTU, and at the icon’s archive - but be warned – the pop-ups could drive you round the bend!

Also, there are some authors on LJ who don’t have their own sites but who post either at their journals, or over at the JDFF list – Chai and Arianne only post at JDFF, I think, although Chai’s stuff is now up at TNL.

to the list... )

I've also been keeping an eye out for new fic, but there hasn't been a great deal posted on the JD front lately. [livejournal.com profile] cantbesilent posted some more recently, The Second Kiss (which she describes as "super-sappy romance", but I like it anyway!), A Good Idea (and apologies for not f/b'ing on it, hun - I meant to, and thought I had *hangs head in shame!*) and Damaged Goods which is fabulous in its angstiness(!)
There are also a couple of WiPs around... I'll wait until they're finished before linking - nothing worse than getting into something which turns out not to be finished!

Please don't hesitate to ask if you want me to find you something... I'll do my best!
caz963: (JDCo1 by towelrackicons)
So, yadda, yadda, yadda, more J/D fic recommendations… )
caz963: (moments by coloneljack)
Amazing as it may seem, I’ve managed to dig up a few more fic recs.
I’m sorry it’s a bit of a short list this week, but real life has intervened and shortened my fic searching time! Also, I think I've recommended most of the good stuff by now! Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to find, and I'll do my best. At some point, I'll do a round up of sites so all the links are in one handy place... although I think that's a job for the Summer holidays!
As usual, let me know if any of the links don't work.
