Fic help?

I need to make up a reasonably authentic sounding name for a chemical which appears in the fic I'm currently writing. It's a major plot point, although it will only get one or two namechecks. I'm utterly rubbish at making up scientific gobbledeygook, so if anyone's got any ideas or knows of a comm for this sort of thing, I'd be grateful for the pointer.
caz963: (ten donna library)
It's been ages since I committed fic!

Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. Although if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble

Rating: PG

Category: Introspection, missing scenes, angst, large dollops of UST and a bit of romance.

Spoilers: Set throughout S4, so it’s full of ‘em if you haven’t seen it! (Plus the odd, tiny reference to a couple of my own fics)

A/N: I can’t lay claim to any recognisable dialogue – that’s down to people far more talented than I.

Believe it or not, this was actually the first Ten and Donna fic I ever started to write, so it's had a gestation period somewhat akin to that of an elephant!

Unbetaed, but with grateful thanks to [livejournal.com profile] canterlevi for her continual encouragement. As usual, I proof-read myself, so any mistakes are mine.

What is it about them and kitchens?
caz963: (DW Midnight hug)
I've just read a fic over at [livejournal.com profile] doctor_donna that I enjoyed so much that I had to rush to pimp it - and you can find it here. We know that the Doctor has, at some point told River about Donna. What if he confides in someone else as well, someome who has also had to live with the fact that an important woman in his life had forgotten him? It' s a lovely read - and may induce the odd sniffle.
caz963: (DW lawfully biodamped)
I've been a bit creatively challenged lately. I want to write and I have stuff to finish - and when I can actually get down to it, it flows reasonably well. But I'm still a bit creaky around the edges :(

So have a drabble.

It's not much but -

1) At least I've finished something!

2) I managed to get it to exactly 100 words :-)
caz963: (DW so not married)
You know how you have an idea for a fic that is quite possibly - in fact, almost definitely - the most completely and utterly stupid idea for a fic that you've ever had because it goes completely against your usual principles of plausibility and at the very least, half-way-decent characterisation?

And you know how you ignore it in the hope that it'll go away?

But it doesn't, and in fact instead of it going away, you find yourself writing huge great swathes of it in your head?

And then you think "I know - maybe if I write it down and pretend I've got some intention of actually writing it properly, maybe even finishing and posting it someday, that'll exorcise it and it'll go away?"

And 4,000 words later ...

It's worked! :-)

For a couple of weeks :-(

So you try again.

And 2,000 more words later... it's still there?

Well... what comes next?

(And please - don't say "porn" - because I haven't even got to that bit yet!)

Bollocks.
caz963: (DW so not married)
This isn't something I normally do because I tend to like to keep fic fairly close to my chest until I'm satisfied that it's in a decent enough state to let someone else see it. But I'm still at home - recovering, thankfully - and I'm determined to stay awake so this is by way of stopping me dozing off!

Gakked from many places on my flist:

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Ask about one and I'll tell you something about it, or post a snippet.

I've never been one to be overrun with plot-bunnies, so there aren't too many of these.

Here goes.

ETA: Forgot one! - Doppleganger crack - answered for [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes

The West Wing - Josh/Donna

Press Scandal fic. (This one has been sitting here 80% done for the last two years and it's starting to annoy me. I keep promising myself that I WILL FINISH IT!)

Gaza-Hospital fic - answered for [livejournal.com profile] bingblot
Josh leaving - answered for [livejournal.com profile] segsig

There ya go. Ask a question or ask for a snippet and I'll do my best to indulge your curiosity!

Oh - and I'm posting answers in comments rather than in separate posts to save spamming the f-list!

Author's Notes under the cut.

It's alright for you! You're probably used to it by now.

Because the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers is The West Wing, I wandered over to my Josh/Donna fanfic recs page to have a look for some links to post.

I was already aware that there have been some changes since I originally posted the recs - sites have been taken down or moved and I'm also aware that I've not been at all diligent in updating the posts. In my own defence, there are rather a lot of posts and recs and links; it's a massive job to update them all, and I don't have the time to do it at the moment. I'll try at some point, but I have no idea when!

But I have been updating links on the post that links to author's sites.

Again, a number of sites have disappeared or moved. I've made some changes to the lists, but if you're aware of any moves that I haven't found, please comment here, or at that post and I'll change it. And if you're an author and I've not found your new site or fic-home yet, please do the same so I can make the change.

And now I'm going back to trying to decide what fic(s) to rec...

Having seen and been inspired by the housekeeping posts made by some of my f-listees, I thought I should probably have a look through all the fandom-related rambling I did in 2010 and see if it warranted organising. To my surprise, there was quite a lot of it.

Here, then are the thinky-thoughts, reviews, picspams, fanfic and meta that I posted last year:

Other Telly )
Fandom-related memes )
Picspams. Mostly David Tennant centric! )

Notes and disclaimers in Part One

Part Two

Oh - cliché and mush alert!
caz963: (Midnight hug)
Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. Although if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters: Ten & Donna Noble (Ten/Donna eventually)

Rating: PG --> NC-17 towards the end. But if teh sexytiems isn’t your thing, you can read the rest and it’ll still make sense. I think.

Category: Hurt, comfort, angst and smut

Spoilers: None if you’ve seen S4 up to Midnight

A/N: I’m aware that this particular vein has been extensively mined – but this has been kicking around in my head for ages and wouldn’t leave me alone until I’d written it down.

Also – I set myself a bit of a challenge; to write something shippy without going completely out of character. Fingers crossed I’ve managed it.

And so - he talks. Really talks, the way he does on those rare occasions Donna has come to value so highly, when they’re just - being together.

caz963: (DW Ten and Donna not from Mars)
Mondays are shitty work-wise, so it was nice to find something waiting for me on my f-list that made me smile tonight.

When Plan C Fails... is a Doctor Who / Good Omens crossover fic by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis that features Ten & Donna and Crowley & Aziraphale (with bonus Wilf and Sylvia).

It's funny, well-written and the characterisation is excellent.

Don't read it while you're eating or drinking though - there are some parts where that could be dangerous!
caz963: (donna cuppa)
Blimey! It's been a while.

Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. Although if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters: Donna Noble, Sarah-Jane Smith – with a brief appearance by Luke Smith and (of course) the Tenth Doctor in absentia. So no, this would definitely NOT pass the Bechdel test!

Spoilers: Mentions events that take place up to and in The Runaway Bride

Rating: PG

A/N: I don’t know where this came from. I’m wrestling with a long Ten/Donna fic, I’ve got about four other unfinished fics on my HD – and then this one attacked me just as I was going to bed the other night. But it gave me the opportunity to write my two favourite DW companions ever, so I suppose I can’t complain.

With many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zinke for the read through.

She doesn’t want to go through the rest of her life in a haze of mediocrity and reality TV.
caz963: (What?)
I'm laughing so hard at this, I had to pass it on. I stole a meme from [livejournal.com profile] selenak; I had to paste something wot I wrote into a box, push a button and my writing style is analysed.

It's sadly addictive, and it doesn't just have to be fic that you feed in - it can be anything at all.

I got a variety of results - apparently, depending on the fic and the fandom, I write like Stephen King (couple of DW fics), Margaret Attwood, (DW) James Joyce (God help me!), (WW) H P Lovecraft, Chuck Palahniuk (um - sorry, but who he? - and whoever he is, I write like him in both fandoms) and Mark Twain (another WW fic).

But this one cracked me up. I fed in a West Wing ficlet called Syntactical Pedantry and I got this.

I write like
William Shakespeare

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

I don't think I could ask for more than that, really, could I?

I should warn you that that fic contains no women dressed as men, no murders, no ghosts, no witches, no faries and no Princes of Denmark.

And before you ask, no, I didn't feed it any pr0n!
caz963: (DW Ten & Donna Ood)
Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. Although if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters/Category: Ten, Donna, and a certain Venetian gentleman (as written by RTD) who’s got a bit of a reputation with the ladies *g*.

There may possibly be the tiniest bit of UST. If you squint.

Spoilers: None if you’ve seen S4. Let’s say this comes firmly in the first half of the series, sometime after Planet of the Ood. I’ve always assumed there’s a fair bit of a gap between that and The Sontaran Stratagem because it seems in that episode as though Donna’s not been home for a while.

I started this months before Vampires in Venice aired - God knows what I was on at the time.

I have committed crack!fic.

[livejournal.com profile] zinke assures me this is quite normal and that it's nothing to worry about. I wonder if there are pills for this sort of thing.
caz963: (Doc votd)
Eh. I drabbled.

But I'll try not to get any on anyone.

Luck, be a lady...
caz963: (ten & Donna happy)
God help me, but I finally did it. I caved and wrote DW smut. C'mon. You all knew it was bound to happen sooner or later!

Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. Although if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters: Ten/Donna (meep!)

Rating: NC-17

Category: Um. Chat. And smut.

Spoilers: None, unless you don't know who these people are. Set sometime mid-S4.

A/N: This is the fic I said I’d never write. Well. One of them. Ten and Donna had an amazing relationship which we were constantly told was because they didn’t fancy each other and there were no romantic overtones.

Well, I don’t know what Rusty thought he was writing, but that’s not what came across on the screen. And anyway, who’s to say that the sort of love these two shared was somehow ‘lesser’ than something fluffy and romantic? (And I don’t do ‘fluffy’. I suspect that Donna wouldn’t either!) I reckon it makes far more sense to want to spend ‘forever’ with your best friend, someone you can have a laugh with and someone who understands you better than anyone else in the world.

And where does it say in the rule book that best friends can’t sleep together? *g*

Thanks to the long-suffering [livejournal.com profile] zinke , who has (amazingly) managed to put up with my constant whining (usually along the lines of – “what the hell am I doing???”) throughout the writing of this – I don’t know how she does it!

And - my heartfelt apologies to [livejournal.com profile] kiss_me_cassie. Aliens made me do it! But if it’s any consolation, they’re still ‘them’ :-)

Oi! I'm not a - JUST an anything!
caz963: (Ten & Donna JE)
Disclaimers: Not mine. Auntie’s. But if David Tennant wants to come round to argue the point, I’d have no objections!

Characters: Ten, Donna (mostly in absentia)

Rating: G

Category: Angst

Spoilers: Set just after Donna has been returned home in Journey’s End

A/N: This has been on the back-burner for a few weeks, but after reaching the end of my rewatch marathon I’ve finally had time to finish it.
