Days out...

Just back from a short break in and around London and I thought I'd post some pics. We've not been away for a "proper" holiday this year - instead we've had odd days out here and there, which have probably cost us just as much, but what the hell! So we did a fair bit of walking and sightseeing - took the kids to The Sound of Music one evening, which Elinor and I have seen, but the others hadn't. It was the first time Abigail had been to a show so she was very excited and behaved herself beautifully - she asked "Daddy, what time does the film start?" - awwwww!
I enjoyed it, but I have the same reservations as before - the kids are good, the woman singing the part of the Abbess is fantastic but the Maria is pretty average vocally - she had a very nasal tone, which started to get on my nerves about half way through! But then, I'm picky about things like that.
Anyway, on with the photos!
Mr Caz is currently researching his family tree, and wanted to go back to visit some of his old haunts in Deptford and Greenwich

St. Paul's Church, Deptford, where his parents were married.

St. Nicholas' Church, Deptford, where his grandparents were married.

Looking towards Greenwich from the Cutty Sark (which is still being restored after the fire) - that's St. Alfege's Church which was designed by Wren, although there's been a church on the site since the 11th Century.

The Maritime Museum, which is beautifully laid out and very interesting.

A model boat. Just for
hooloovoo_42, 'cause I know she likes boats! :-) Unfortunately, we didn't have time to go to the Observatory, so we'll have to do that on the next visit.
Being in Greenwich meant we were within an easy walk of the riverboat service, which was the ideal method of transportation to our next venue...

Various bits of the Tower of London.

I took Elinor off to the Doctor Who exhibition at Earl's Court one morning - I took these pics on my phone, so they're not that great :(

K9 - awesome!

Face of Boe in a jar... quite impressive looking, really

Gotta love the daleks! There was an "open" one there that kids could sit/stand in and speak into a microphone that transformed them into deadly metal killing machines!
Friday evening, we moved from Greenwich and went to stay with Mr Caz's stepmum, not far from Hampton Court, which was Saturday's visit -

Such a beautiful place - and there are lots of events going on, plus people wandering around in costume. The girls had a chat with the King and Queen - Abigail told them a joke! (Fenny, it was one of yours!)

The oldest part of the palace is the Tudor bit, but this pic is of the newer, Jacobean part...

And the gardens are fabulous, even at this time of year

So we're home and, apart from Elinor's birthday on Wednesday, hoping to have a fairly quiet week before I go back to work next Monday (ick).
