I've just learned of the sudden death of Richard Hickox, at the age of only 60.
The name might not mean a lot to many, but Richard was one of the UK's leading conductors and a champion of British music. I worked with him quite a lot in the early 90s when I was in charge of PR at Chandos Records, then his principal recording company. He was a lovely man - quietly spoken, incredibly intelligent, utterly passionate about music - and he never seemed to stop working.
A great loss to the British classical music scene.
