Hee!
So I didn't get to watch Doctor Who yesterday... well, strictly speaking, that's not quite true... I saw it, but couldn't hear it because Abigail was having a paddy!
But I got to see most of the Sunday repeat.

So they got to reuse some of the sets and costumes from “Casanova” this week!

And Mickey's on board the TARDIS now... so he gets to be "exposition boy" for a while, then - you know, asking the dumb questions for the audience's benefit.

And wow – this doctor’s got the women falling over themselves, hasn’t he?? *g* (understandable, I suppose – he’s pretty cute!) He's gotten more lip action in the last few episodes then all the others put together -
"I'm the Doctor and I just snogged Madame de Pompadour" heh!

And was that a Vulcan mind-meld?? *g* Some nice stuff though, about the open door working both ways, and Mme de P sensing the Doctor’s loneliness... I sense a running theme here...

To the clockwork villans – "It’s over… accept it. I’m not winding you up!"(*groan* - some things don’t change. Doctor Who was always famed for its dreadful puns!)

"My lover, the King of France..."
"Yeah?.... well, I’m the Lord of Time"
(regal pissing contest!)

And *sniff*... ends as the camera pans up to reveal ... The Doc, alone ... awwwwww ...

Next week – CYBERMEN!!! WooHoo!!

Today has been "one of those days", you know? Yesterday, I was thinking I'd have a nice easy day today - I'd gotten most of the work I wanted to do done, leaving a couple of bits to do workwise, my journal, plus odds and sods like a huge pile or ironing (which I normally do whilst watching the Sunday repeat of TWW) sewing on the ribbons to Elinor's new ballet shoes, having a sort out of the kids clothes, stuff like that... BUT of course, for things to go wrong today... all I needed to do was get out of bed.
Firstly - I needed to select a DVD clip to use in a lesson Monday. No problem - I knew what I wanted, I just had to make a note of the chapter number and timing so I could cue it up before the lesson. Simple, right? Well, it would have been if the bloody DVD player on this laptop worked properly! Thing is, a while back, I had to have it (the laptop) rebuilt to increase the disc space and as a result had to re-load all the stuff I'd had on it before. Which means that Windows Media Player no longer has an MPEG2 codec, for some reason. OK, so the techhie at school put on another DVD player, which I don't really like using, cos it's a bit odd, but OK, I can work with it. EXCEPT for the fact that every time I tried to open the DVD menu the damn thing crashed! So after a few times of that happening, I decide to see if I can download a codec for Media Player. The Microsoft help thingy says to re-download WMP10, which I did - but it didn't say that it doesn't HAVE AN MPEG CODEC!!! Aaaaarrgghhh!!
So, having wasted about 2 hours trying to sort THAT out... oh, and later, having re-loaded the player, I find that all my .wma licences have been wiped! If it weren't for the kids, the air would have been a lovely shade of blue, I can tell you. But with the one piece of luck I seem to have had today, I managed to solve that problem reasonable quickly.
So basically, that's put me behind with work, because I can't finalise my lesson plan until I've chosen the DVD extract, so I can't finish writing it... I did manage to solve the problem later, but what a waste of time...
The other thing that really bugged me - I've been trying to d/l a couple of things today from mininova and they're taking AGES! If anyone out there knows about that stuff, please, for the love of all that's holy send me an e-mail and put me out of my misery, cos I'm too stupid to work it out! I use Azureus, and keep getting a message that I have a NAT error (I never get the green smileys, only the yellow ones!)... but it's never seemed to affect anything before, the stuff has d/l'd OK in a couple of hours or so. But today? Nope. So I spent ages reading through the help stuff, trying to get some online help, trying various things (like temporarily turning off the firewall, trying to find a new port etc.) but no luck. I really am not especially techno-savvy, so I need an idiot's guide and HELP!!

... and to cap it all, I still haven't done the ironing...

and I really yelled at the kids and feel like a real schmuck.

I'm sitting here typing and half-watching "The Aviator", which I haven't seen before. Bloody hell, Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn... amazing! But no amount of make-up seems able to make Leo di Caprio look much older than about twelve!

Thanks to both [livejournal.com profile] skywaterblue and [livejournal.com profile] dianora2 for pointing me in the direction of this West Wing fic - funny, original, crazy, perfectly in character ... rampant Republican zombies! CJ and a hockey stick! Toby wielding a machete!
It's much better than I make it sound, really, so go read and enjoy!
