30 Days of TV - Day Twenty Eight
May. 29th, 2010 12:46 pmToday's mission - should I choose to accept it. My first TV show obssession.
Considering my advanced age, I'm amazed I didn't have to think too hard about this one - and no, it's probably not the one you were expecting.
I've posted about this before, on Day Thirteen. I think the first show I was ever incredibly fannish - to the point of obssession - about was The Tomorrow People.
I'm sure it'd look incredibly ropey today - worse, probably, than Classic Who in terms of wobbly sets and men-in-suit monsters. But like Who, I remember it telling really good stories - in this case, about a bunch of kids/teenagers who for some reason have evolved into a different species and have telepathic and telekenetic abilities.
For a kid's show, I think the plotlines were quite sophisticated and I don't think I ever felt I was being talked-down-to.
I never saw the 90s remake, but given the way television seems to be mining its archives for old ideas to bring back, you never know - we might see it again someday!
