I've thought about this and thought about this from time to time, and you're right: we have no idea when or how the Doctor regenerated from 8 to 9. Despite 9 checking himself out in the mirror in 'Rose', we know he's had that face long enough to get represented in historical situations, so I dunno. *shrugs* If 8 regenerated to 9 right after the Time War, or in the process of ending the Time War, then Nine is in the same boat as Ten - but if it happened during the Time War in a battle, then he's not. Who knows? Regardless, both Nine and Ten make me quite sad, but Ten is a little bit more visible about his emo. Erm. D=
