I must go back and re-read some of his interviews... I mean, he's clearly well aware that women find him attractive, although I can quite believe that he's competely bemused by it!

I really sat up and took notice when he was in Casanova. I'd seen him in a few other things but he seems to have played a string of creeps and/or nutters, but in that he was funny, charming, incredibly sexy (of course), vulnerable, cheeky and loveable. Of course much of that was due to the way the character was written, in that RTD had chosen to show us a man who genuinely liked women, rather than someone who just used them. And it wasn't about the snogging or the shagging - it was all the stuff I just listed which just floored me, and I've stayed that way about him ever since. I know RTD said somewhere (I've been trying to find it, but can't) that they cast David (in Casanova) because they didn't want someone "conventionally handsome" (there's that stupid phrase again), because the character was supposed to be about all the other things that made women fall for him, not just his looks.
