I never watched Alias and I gave up on Lost sometime during the first season, so Fringe is the first Abrams show I've got into and followed. One of the things that makes it so compulsive is the great characterisation; it would have been so easy to make Walter a one-dimensional "mad scientist" but he's so much more - so broken and loveable ... and dangerous! And I think that Torv is going a great job with Olivia now - as you say, she was very closed off and we saw her start to open up and loosen up with Peter, and then, bang! she's closed down again and trying to find her place. I thought the switcheroo of Olivias was a great plot device, but the way they're now showing us the psychological and emotional effects of that is terrific - so many other shows wouldn't do that. I hope that Fringe sticks around for quite a while - although I wouldn't want it to become stale. As long as it gets a good ending - whenever that is - I'll be happy. (Unless it's cancelled this year - in which case, I won't!)
