Technically, my Doctor is Five, but Two is my all time fav, followed by Eight. Funnily enough, I never warmed to Three, (I think he was tained by Wurzel Gummidge) lol
Anywhoo, I just wanted to point out that most of the Charley/Doctor series was made during show hiatus. Lucie/Doctor ran concurrently.
As I'm sure you're aware from listening to special features: everything gets run by BBC Wales for approval (which is how I know that the best monsters ever - the Ice Warriors - won't be on tv anytime soon). So I'm sure the new canon does have an effect, not just on storylines, but also what they can do with Eight to some extent.
Eight's odd slides into almost-depression and boughts of anger were there before New Who came back. I wonder if RTD ever listened in first? Presumably Shearman and Gattiss, who have written for both Big Finish and tv had an inkling of what had been done before.
I agree, Eight does foreshadow new Who quite nicely at times.
