I learned a lot about cooking from my grandmother. My mum is the sort of cook who cooks because she has to - not that she's a bad cook, it's just not her thing. But I learned to bake cakes when I was quite young, and they're fairly simple things for the kids to learn to do.
That pudding is really gorgeous - I made one that was 1 and a half the size of the one in the recipe, which meant zesting more fruit :( That's the one downside to it. Still, when the kids are older, they'll be able to do that bit, too!
