Jack's Back!

I can't help it - I'm addicted to "24"!
So Jack returns, looking like something out of the Count of Monte Christo, not having spoken a word for 2 years.
"You understand the difference between dying for nothing and dying for something." Keep that stiff-upper lip, Jack!
Wayne Palmer is President (which I already knew from the trailers I'd seen), so keeping it in the family then! But the really important question then is - where the hell is Mike? :) Someone tell me he's coming back at some point!
And can you remind me who Karen is? I know she was in a previous season as something to do with CTU, but I can't for the life of me remember when it was. And she's Mrs Bill!
Chloe's become a brunette and is still with her somewhat smarmy English boyfriend - Milo's back looking respectable in a suit. And Alexander Siddig looks hot with a beard!
I have to admit some of the dialogue was laughable, as was Palmer's reaction at the end to realising that Jack was right all along. *sigh* Repeat after me - "Jack Bauer is always right." You think he'd have learned that by now.
Oh, and there's another Palmer - a sister who's just been arrested by the FBI because she didn't want to hand over the personnel records from the organisation she works for. Arresting the president's sister is presumably not a good idea. And the sub-plot about the well meaning family across the street from the suspected terrorist who take in his son after he's (the father) arrested... but of course it turns out it's the son who's involved in the nefarious dealings. Gotta love the sub-plots!
And we got Jack being all emo, and "I can't remember how to do this". Yeah right. Shortly after he escaped his new captors by ripping out a guy's throat with his teeth. Gruesome, but I gotta hand it to the creators - I don't think that's been done on mainstream television before!
So Jack's just foiled the bombing on the subway - a mere two hours after getting off the plane from China. He's been tortured, escaped being killed in the attack on the house, got beaten up in the fight with the suicide bomber, but then that's a light two hours for Jack Bauer. What a guy!
Pure hokum. But I love it.
