caz963: (matt & danny b&w)

This won’t be a very long summary, because I’m knackered and I have another too early morning tomorrow, but I wanted to jot down a few things.

First of all – Jack rocks. He was far and away the best thing in this episode; the boardroom scene especially -

Chairman:What are you going to do about it?
Jack: Not pay it.
Chairman:And when they say ‘give us our money’, you’re going to say..?
Jack:No.

and then –
Chairman:Well, I don’t feel like a laughing stock
Jack: That’s only because you’re a moron. (bwah!)

So Jack heads back to LA to work on Xiang to get him to threaten to dump the Macau deal if the board votes to fire Wilson and pay the fine.

But oops – I see a problem on the horizon – Jack wants to set Tom up with Kim (Xiang’s viola playing daughter) on Thursday when he’s (Tom) already arranged a date with Lucy. Mayhem and hilarity will certainly ensue…

Tom and Lucy are cuuuuute.

And we meet Halle, the “Head of Alternative Programming” – or as Jordan put it, “Illiterate Programming”, which, given recent events here in the UK surrounding a certain reality show is certainly closer to the mark! I have to say, that even if Jordan hadn’t been so dismissive of her, the remark about there being another pretty girl around who wasn’t pregnant was a bit uncalled for. Sounded like the throwing down of a gauntlet if you ask me! Not sure yet if she’s designed to be the girl we all love to hate…

This episode confirms even more to my mind anyway that Matt and Suzanne (“boss-sexy”, heh!) are the new Josh and Donna, even though I doubt it’ll have the same outcome, if for no other reason than that Merritt Weaver is “normal looking” rather than stunning and willowy.

Okay… I’ve been putting this off, but – Danny is starting to creep me out. That whole pre-credit section? I was watching through my fingers – seriously, the last time I watched someone and cringed so much, it was David Brent. I’m not sure for whom to feel more embarrassed – for “Danny” for acting like such a prat, or for Brad for having to actually act such a prat.
This has nothing to do with my not having been a fan of the pairing – I’ve gotten used to the idea and was interested to see where Sorkin was going with it and how it would play out, but really, a grown man having his friends and peers fax “recommendations” to a woman he’s interested in?? That whole conversation with Matt was painful.
And then his refusal to give up when Jordan told him to stop. I didn’t like it at all. It’s hardly the way to recommend yourself to a woman, is it? To keep pestering her until she gives in?

Jordan seemed interested before, but given her history, she’s being cautious, which makes perfect sense. And like I’ve said before, she has more than just herself to think about, now. But I’d have thought that Danny’s behaviour is hardly likely to predispose her towards him. Wtf is Sorkin doing? Is he trying to completely “un-Josh” Brad by making Danny unsympathetic? Because his not taking “no” for an answer is bordering on the unhealthy.

Sorry.

So, not a terrible episode, but then I guess maybe the hiatus and the fact that the Christmas one was the best of the season was bound to make this one feel a bit anticlimactic. I still enjoyed it - Jack was fab, Matt Perry continues to excel and yay! for Lucy and Tom - but... I can't believe Sorkin has actually succeeded in making me want to cover my eyes and ears when Bradley Whitford is on screen - puppy eyes and emo face notwithstanding.

I think I need to go watch some Josh to cleanse my palette… (like I need an excuse!)

(Oh, and Brad? Keep away from the friggin’ doughnuts!)
