1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.
The characters I've chosen all come from films and TV - I was trying to think of some from books, but none of my faves have a name beginning with J! And I couldn't think of any female characters I like whose names begin with J, either. (I'm sure I'll think of a bucketload once I've hit "post".)
1. Yes. Of course. Who else but the wonder that is Joshua Lyman?

All fangirling aside, Josh is, IMO one of the best TV characters to have come along in recent years. An arrogant, loudmouthed, wisecracking, emotionally constipated (!) guy with a heart of gold, who'd do anything for his friends and who had an unfortunate propensity to stick his foot in his mouth, Josh could easily have been an abrasive character; but the writing, combined with Brad's innate charm quickly turned him into the favourite of many.
It doesn't hurt that Brad is very nice to look at, has charisma that hits you between the eyes, even from the other side of a TV screen, and is one of the sexiest men in existence. But that's just my opinion :-)
2. Jed Bartlet.

The greatest president America never had. I still think that Jed's entrance at the end of the WW pilot is the best introduction of a character in a TV show EVER - and it'll take a lot to shake me from that belief! Bartlet was the president we all wanted, never mind just our friends across the pond. An intelligent, ethical and thoughtful man who had to face some tough choices and who did some things that we may not all have agreed with, it's probably the one time we all wished that US presidents could run for a third term!
3. John Smith

Whaddya mean, that's cheating?? Oh no it's not!
I think DT is one of the best Doctors ever - yes, he's cute, but he has that amazing energy and the ability to play manic one minute and emo the next. He's going to be an incredibly tough act to follow. I mustn't forget though that there have been nine other "John Smiths"... I grew up with Doctor Who and I'm so pleased it's been brought back in such great style.
4.Dr. John Carter

I was a huge fan of ER and actually I more or less stopped watching when Carter left. I don't think I was ready to invest in any more new characters after all that time! Carter had been the heart of the show since Mark Greene died, and he'd come so far in - what was it? eleven seasons? - from his days as a med student right up until he became the lynchpin of the ER (and the show). I read this week that he's going to appear in 4 of the show's final episodes this season, so I'll make a point of watching!
5. There seems to be a pattern here - Captain John Sheridan

I was a huge fan of Babylon 5 - a sci fi show which may have paved the way for BSG in that although it had state of the art special effects, it was nonetheless more concerned about the characters and the storytelling than how many things they could blow up each week!
Sheridan didn't appear until the second season of the five season arc, but he was everything you could want from a Sci-fi hero. Bit of a maverick, some skeletons in his cupboard - and ready to sacrifice himself for the greater good. And yeah - I was a Sheridan/Delenn shipper ;-)
So if you wanna play, just comment and I'll give you a letter!

Date: 2008-09-07 12:40 am (UTC)I do love your choices though (#1 was a total surprise! ;))
Whaddya mean, that's cheating?? Oh no it's not!
It's not cheating, it's just very clever manipulation of the rules *g*
Oh I so loved John Carter, and I adored the Carter/Benton relationship (not in a slashy way though!). I loved how that mentor/student relationship grew and one of my favourite images from the show was when Carter became addicted to prescription drugs and when he realised he had to get help, it cut to a shot of him in the plane, with Benton sitting right beside him. *tears up a little bit*
Fab characters!

Date: 2008-09-07 11:43 am (UTC)God, I laughed so hard at that!!
At least I'm not as blatantly bad at the, um... "manipulation of the rules" as Jed *g*
I'd forgotten that scene you mention in ER, but yeah, I remember tearing up, too. Those were the days, eh?
Do I give you a letter back or have you had enough? ;-)

Date: 2008-09-07 11:47 am (UTC)I loved B5 - I didn't get to see much of Crusade because I don't think it ever aired on terrestrial TV did it? Or if it did, it was on at such a stupid time that I couldn't watch it.
Anyway, letter... "S".
