Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then admonish your readership to do the same so you can find new stories to read and pimp.

Hm. Well, I've only written in two fandoms, so this isn't going to be a fandomly-varied meme!

1) The Theory of Evolution was, I think, one of those fics that marked a bit of a progression for me as a writer. And I know that sounds pompous, but I think we can all identify things like that in various aspects of our lives - where we make a leap, or break through a barrier or whatever, and that fic felt that way for me, which is why I'm fond of it. It was also something I worked incredibly hard to get right; I mean, introspection is hard at the best of times, but introspection when you're writing characters who very rarely say what they actually mean? I'm a martyr to my cause... ;-)

2) Uncertain Horizons. I like this one for similar reasons to the above - I feel it was another "step up" in terms of my ability as a writer, and besides, even I think I wrote some pretty hot smut in that one, which has got to be a plus, right? But I'd been wanting to get a handle on Donna's actions and reactions to her first night with Josh for a while and although I went off on a bit of a tangent initially, [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack smacked me back into line and I think the fic worked out okay in the end.

3) Can I have a joint one? The two Christmas parodies I've written were HUGE fun to write. I was able to explore the characters in a different way each time, although I have to say, writing Leo for the first time in One Simple Act was a bit scary because I'd never written him before, and I was having to write him as an 'angel'! And Keeping the Spirit last year was twice as long so, twice the fun! Well, yes, I agonized too, but mostly it was fun getting in all the references I wanted and stuff like that. And thanks to Linz, I got to write Josh's Dad, which I adored doing. Oh, and Mrs L, too!

But seriously, IAWL and Christmas Carol are two of my favourites, so it was wonderful to explore them both and draw all the necessary parallels, and also amazing to find so many things that just "fit" for WW and J/D fic. I remember the section in Simple Act where Leo is trying to convince Josh that he's never existed in this world - in the movie, Clarence points out to George Bailey (who is deaf in one ear) that he all of a sudden has perfect hearing - in both ears. The idea that angel!Leo convinces Josh by pointing out that he doesn't have a scar from the shooting just seemed to pour onto the page by itself - as did the part in a later section where Josh comes "to" and one of the first things he does is feel for the scar - and is grateful to find it there - just as George is overjoyed to find that his mouth is bleeding when he is returned to his family in the movie. And oh, I could go on and on, but if you've read them, then you know what I mean.

4) Number Eighteen. One of the few fics I've written that stays in canon, this sprang up almost fully formed as a result of an IM convo with [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack one night. I wrote Toby again, which is always a bit daunting for me, and I wonder why I do it! And as with the first two fics on this list, I think I moved on again in terms of my writing, which is really important to me.

5) Having been initially very resistant to the Danny/Jordan pairing on Studio 60 I finally caved and wrote D/J fic. I couldn't help wondering how it came about that Danny accompanied Jordan to her OBGYN appointment at the beginning of The Christmas Show and was amazed that none of the other fic writers had tackled it. So I wrote Trouble Sleeping, a post-ep to B-12 which is my version of events after the revelation of Jordan's pregnancy at the end of that episode. I guess I like this because it's one of my few forays outside WW, and because in order to write it and make it work, I had to "de-Joshify" it and make Danny into Danny rather than some other shade of Josh. And I think I managed it :)

I guess I should shut up now and go write something instead!

Coincidentally, I pimped your stories this morning! Someone was looking for well-written J/D with angst and humor.

All good choices but then, considering the library you're choosing from, that's no surprise.

I'm looking forward to this year's Christmas opus... any progress thus far?
