I'm really going to do it, this time.

Yes, it's early, but I'm going to spring clean my icon collection. To make it easier, I've just pasted them all into a document so that I can see them all at once and divide them into groups. (Anal? Moi? You bet!)
I was thinking I should put them on some sort of rotation... anyone out there do that? And if you do, what do you do?
All ideas gratefully received - no matter how daft! (Yes, I'm looking at you,
hooloovoo_42 and
teresadivicenzo!)

Date: 2009-01-04 11:26 pm (UTC)I've started saving the ones I retire into a separate folder, but usually forget to say whose they were.

Date: 2009-01-04 11:43 pm (UTC)I open the folders up as thumbnails and can skim through and see the collection. I always save them with a name and then who created it so as to give proper credit.
So as the seasons change, my mood changes, when the situation calls for a specific icon, easy to find.
I warned you I was completely anal. I even color code folders in my office. No I don't have a problem.

Date: 2009-01-04 11:52 pm (UTC)Otherwise, I divide the topic folders by icon maker, if there's a lot, or the miscellaneous ones just lie about at the bottom of the topic folder until I notice that I have a few by a single maker. Since I can see the icon by viewing by 'thumbnails', I don't usually bother to label it by what it is, but rather by who to credit.
As far as 'rotation'...the only ones I typically rotate are the seasonal ones, most of which are my girlyb icons. The others, I just do as it suits me. I do have a folder labeled 'my used LJ icons', so I know what I've actually used before, but I rarely even open it again. When I delete an icon, I just recopy from LJ to that folder. (This crazy step is also because I have three computers, and not all my icons are on all my computers---so I never know where stuff has come from.)

Date: 2009-01-05 04:46 pm (UTC)The idea of a previously used folder might be something I will steal :)
Did you sort out your mood theme problem, btw?

Date: 2009-01-05 05:01 pm (UTC)I did! Thanks to piney, she noticed that I was using the folder address (sXXX) when I should have been using the image address (iXXX), and then from there I saw that the code was trying to call them .png, when they're actually .gif. (That was an error on the part of the theme maker--she actually made a note of it in the post, but either I missed it, or she only added it after I'd downloaded.)
Now if I could just get my audio and video issues sorted for vid-making, I'd be *all* set. :-)
I hadn't thought of filing them by maker
It all depends on how you figure you'll think of the icons when you want them. The way my brain works, I think--hey, I want a nice stock-photo seasonal shot....and I know that for me, those are either
I do, in fact, have a huge folder for
