Harry Potter 4
Nov. 30th, 2005 11:39 pmOK, So just got back from seeing the new HP movie and thought it was really good. It's a few years since I read the book, but I don't think there was anything really crucial missed out. Which is quite a feat considering the length of the book and how much must've been left out to create a 2 and a half hour film! The overall look was quite dark, which is in keeping with the tone of the book, I guess - they get progressively darker, and this is the first one in which someone actually dies "on screen" - by which I mean the other deaths we know about, like Harry's parents have already taken place, or we hear about things which have happened but don't actually see them. And I have to say - and I'm old enough to be his mum (and then some, probably) that Daniel Radcliffe is turning into a very handsome young man.
As with all the movies, it's kinda "spot the celeb" - even the smaller roles are filled by well-known faces, such as Miranda Richardson, Frances de la Tour etc. The guy playing Moody was pretty good, and I'm already a fan of David Tennant, who in this was playing the bad guy. Interesting thing about him - he's one of those actors who can look quite handsome or quite plain - I thought he was quite sexy in "Casanova" earlier this year, but when he was in "He Knew He Was Right" last year, playing... can't remember the name, but a clergyman, he was nothing out of the ordinary. I guess that kind of ability helps as an actor - stops you getting too typecast, perhaps. So it'll be interesting to see what happens to him once he takes over as Doctor Who at Christmas.
So, enjoyed the movie... saw the trailer for the Narnia film, which I really must go and see - it looks absolutely stunning, from those snippets, and also for Peter Jackson's "King Kong" which I'd also like to get to if I can.
