I've just paid some bills online, and had to invent yet ANOTHER password for something.

I get that some of this stuff is an extra layer of security, all well and good. But if we're not supposed to write passwords down, how the hell are we going to remember them all?

I admit, I've taken to using the same usernames and passwords for practically everything - but it really pisses me off when a site won't let me have a particular password because it doesn't have the required number of letters/numbers/capital letters. That means I have to think of a new one, and they're the ones I'm likely to forget. The one I've just used is for Verified by Visa, which I've changed 3 times in the last couple of months. I'll have to change it next time as well, because all the easily memorable passwords are ones I've already used.

I think that next time I'll just enter a random bunch of numbers and letters, because whatever I put in, I'll have forgotten it by the next time!

With me it's my amazon password I have to change each time. My brain has decided it's just one too many.

It's amazing how many passwords and usernames we have to remember these days. No wonder I can no longer memorise anything useful.

I find that the stuff I did ages ago and use all the time - amazon, play.com, pin numbers etc are fine. It's just that now there's so many more things I do online, and every one wants a password that it's driving me nuts. And it pisses me off when I want to use a particular password because I can remember it! and whatever it is won't let me for some stupid reason.

I also hate the ones that have to be changed regularly. My work voice mail password expires every two months or so, and I get voice mail so infrequently that I can never ever remember my current password when I need it. It's a six digit number, so I've started rotating among my family's birthdates, but then the system won't let me reuse things that quickly. GAH.

Yeah, that's the other thing - most of these places won't let you recylcle passwords, so you're even more likely to forget them because you're having to think of new ones all the time. My real problems are with Verified by Visa and a similar one that my mastercard uses - not all retailers use them and then when they do, I get the passwords mixed up. One of them I had to use capitals and one I didn't... and you only get three chances to get it right. It's a right PITA.

Ugh, I hate Verified by Visa.

It didn't seem to realise I had registered until about the 10th time I did it. Thankfully it did like my password though (I use the same one, or variations on it, for basically everything).

It's crazy the differences in different website's security levels though - my ibanking needs a log on ID (all numerical) and a weird password generating calculator thingy, plus my bank card for me to get into it.

By contrast, my Virgin credit card needs a log on name (which anyone with half a brain could work out) and a simple password and that's it - then anyone logged into that can get all my account info and retrieve my pin number with just a few clicks - insanity!
