I didn’t get to re-watch The Idiot’s Lantern when it was on the other night, so I watched it earlier tonight.

Clearly, it’s a parable on the ills of watching too much telly.

It’s a decent enough episode, not one of my favourites, although the kids find it pretty scary. In fact, my youngest (aged 7) sat there with her hands over her face, peeping at it through her fingers!

Personally however, I’m not sure which is scarier.

I suppose he has at least shown it a comb!

I can forget the barnet if I look at the eyes...

And the burning question… how come he doesn’t have helmet-hair?

One of the (many) things I’ve always admired about David Tennant is his ability to give the most ridiculously over-the-top sounding speeches a)with total sincerity and conviction and b)without laughing himself stupid.

I knew there was a good reason for choosing those converse!

Closedown.

Yeah, not much to say, really. Time to go watch The Impossible Planet!

It was okay - scary enough for the kids, but very much the "mid-season filler episode".

I wonder if sometimes, we've become so spoiled by the really really good episodes that something that's simply "okay" and well-made is diminished.

Well, there's really great, there's damn good Doctor Who and then there's The Idiot's Lantern! I'm not saying it's the worst episode, but I don't think it only suffers in comparison with the really great episodes.
