30 Days of TV - Day Fourteen

I might have been looking forward to this one. Just a bit. Because... today on the 30 Days of TV meme - my favourite male character.
I don't have to post anything else, do I? You all know where I'm going to go. And that I can't name just one -
A little while ago, I pointed out that I may be in a bit of a rut when it comes to my fangirling choices. I go for the smart, funny guys with nice eyes and a winning smile, who - while they may not merit that stupid label "conventionally handsome" - are nonetheless gorgeous and incredibly sexy. Being brilliant, clueless about women and somewhat fucked-up seem to go hand-in-hand with the pretty - and having a nice arse doesn't hurt either!
But back to the characters.
Exhibit A.

Joshua Lyman. Lost his sister in a fire when he was a kid, and his father on the night of what should have been his (as Toby would have called it) 'day of jubilee'. As a result, he has a fear of abandonment, which results in the fact that he "doesn't leave people" and has a desperate need to fix everything he can - and things he can't. Despite the mouth full of wiseass and a sometimes world-weary cynicism, he's both an idealist and a pragmatist - a very fine line to tread, but he manages it with aplomb nonetheless. Took him best part of a decade to realise and admit that the love of his life was under his nose :-)
Exhibit B.

The Tenth Doctor. I know - strictly speaking - the character is "The Doctor" (as in all of them!) but given that each of them has their own individual traits and characteristics, I feel justified in picking just the one. Ten quickly became my Doctor for many reasons - not just the obvious one (see above!). I love his boundless energy, his amazing zest for life, his inquisitiveness, his intellect, his humour... and the tormented soul that he hides underneath it all. He can be a ruthless bastard, but will always give his enemies a choice, usually "stop it - or I'll have to stop you". Stupid enemies usually thought he was making empty threats - until he (metaphorically) kicked the crap out of them.
Tragically, he had to give up travelling with his soul-mate and best friend in order to save her life - and became even more fucked-up as a result.
Tomorrow - my favourite female character.
