Meh. I've spent most of the evening faffing around and trying to find a nice, autumnal layout. I've got a couple I like, but neither of them are what I want; one of them has white text on black, which I know is difficult for some to read and the other has a background that cuts across any pictures I post, so is crap for looking at picspams.

I'm a member of a few layout comms, but there's nothing there, either - there's a predominance of really light or really dark layouts with the odd inclusion of the really garish.

One of these days, I keep promising myself I'll learn how to make my own, but I can't see that happening in the near future! And in any case, I never really know what I want until I see it!

So I've resorted to one of the LJ layouts for now. I might fiddle a bit more tomorrow, so this space could well undergo a few changes in quick succession.

Looks good to me. The colours are nice and the text is sufficiently contrasted with the background.

Ooh, I like the one you're using now. :D We have some nice colours on our trees right now, but I think alllll the leaves will be gone in a few more days alas.

Quite a few of the basic LJ ones are quite nice, but I like being able to fiddle and change things here and there.

I do like autumn colours - and I'm surprised that there aren't more seasonal layouts being posted at the various comms.

I'd say it works as a good basic layout! As far as learning to code layouts yourself, even the little bits I do to alter a prefab layout to my liking take a long time. (Admittedly I'm not starting with much of a knowledge base -- I poke bits of code, figure out what they do, and alter them or not as needed.)

I'm like you most of the time - find something I like and make a few alterations here and there in the coding. But sometimes I have to give up - I had a blue/grey one recently that I really liked but there was one thing I just couldn't fix (the userpics kept overlapping on the text on comments) so I changed it for something else.
