30 Days of Nu-Who - Day Five

This was a tough one, because there have been so many great ones. John Simm, Simon Callow, Derek Jacobi, Pauline Collins, David Morrisey, Alex Kingston, Simon Pegg, Lee Evans, Lindsay Duncan. Lesley Sharp, to name but a few … it’s a long list which is testament to the pulling power that Doctor Who continues to have – and I’ve loved ‘em all.

In the end though, I managed to narrow it down a bit.



Sarah-Jane was my favourite companion when I was a kid, and I imagine my reaction to her turning up in DW was about the same as David Tennant’s.



But then – there’s Wilf. Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love Wilfred Mott? From his first appearance as a bemused newspaper-seller, to his final outing as an official companion (the second time for Bernard Cribbins, if you count his outing in one of the Peter Cushing films), he was wonderful. Donna’s doting grandfather, this was the first time in nu-Who that we’ve seen a family member actively encouraging the companion in their desire to accompany the Doctor.

Special mention goes to Tony Curran whose turn as Vincent van Gogh was the highlight of S5 for me.

Ten and Wilfred Mott share (one of) the most heartbreaking scenes EVER in Nu-Who in EoT. Gosh, I wibble just thinking about it.
