Snow day!

I tried to get to work today, but the weather's beaten me. Even the main roads around here aren't gritted, and given that what snow we've had over the last few days has been melting and then icing over, the driving conditions are nasty. It took me 25 minutes to do about 3 miles - mostly in second or third gear, and after a couple of slips I turned around and came home.

My school is open, but the ones around here are closed, so the kids are off too and can't wait to get outside and play in the snow!

Snowploughs. Were they a dream. Along with gritters.

Hah. It's weird though. According to the radio this morning, the snow had come "down" as far as Lincolnshire, and "up" across the South as far as Essex. The rest of East Anglia (I work in Ipswich) appears to have been missed out!

Oh, it's got me already. I'm on the Essex coast and it's been snowing all day so far. It's not heavy, but it's not let up yet.

At least it's real snow and not a spacecraft burning up in the atmosphere!!

Ah, snow days. Things other people get and Canadian children only dream of.

Hope you enjoy it. :D

Hah! This is because you're equipped to deal with it! The part of the country I live in gets snowfall like this rarely - once a year if that. The last time I couldn't get into school was January this year, and before that... I think about three years ago.

There was an item on the radio this morning about Gatwick airport being closed and someone said, rather logically, that it's because they don't see the point of spending billions of pounds on snow ploughs that might get used on two days every year. It's harsh, but true.

lol I know, but JUST ONCE I'd like to be told I don't have to go struggling through 40 centimeters of snow on my way to school. But I will never have this. XD
