I'm generally more about individual stories when it comes to telly, and although I DO like a good overarching story, it's not usually the most important thing for me.
That said, I think the answer to this has to be the Series 3 arc. From the little throwaway mentions of "Mr Saxon" here and there to the masterful (!) way that the fobwatch was re-introduced out of the blue in Utopia, I thought it was brilliantly done.
Plus - DEREK effin' JACOBI!

The S5 arc was clever - but I felt like I was being hit over the head with it time and time again. The S3 one was far more subtle, IMO (Jesus!Doctor and Dobby!Doctor notwithstanding :-P)

Date: 2010-12-22 06:29 pm (UTC)The series 5 arc seemed all over the place. OTOH it's part of a multi-year arc so IMHO it's still too early to tell where it slots in. But yeah, the s5 arc had Captain Obvious written all over it.
