There have been so many heartfelt, eloquent tributes to Lis Sladen today that are still bringing a lump to my throat. I told the girls the sad news this morning and they were as stunned as I was, my eldest especially.
Anyway, I've been fiddling around instead of doing anything useful and before I head off to rewatch School Reunion for the umpteenth time, thought I'd stop fiddling and just post something.
The collected wisdom of Sarah-Jane Smith.

The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss -- they define us as much as happiness or love... Whether it's a world, or a relationship... everything has its time. And everything ends.

Some things are worth getting your heart broken for.

And of course, the reverse is also true.
Finally this one - just because.

Goodbye, Doctor.
Oh, it's not goodbye--
Say it, please. This time. Say it.
Goodbye. My Sarah Jane.

And of course, the reverse is also true.

Date: 2011-04-21 12:07 pm (UTC)In retrospect, that School Reunion quote seems gut-wrenchingly sad, not so much from Lis's point of view as Ten's - he was very much defined by pain and loss and even flirted with the dark side, both developments that seemed very improbable way back in S2.
David must be feeling very sad that his little one will only get to meet her through TV. She would have made a wonderful godmother/honourary auntie. I always feel that godmothers, fairy or otherwise, should be there for kids to take the risks they can't or wouldn't with parents, and to put them back together if they fall. Sarah Jane fitted that job description perfectly.

Date: 2011-04-21 03:36 pm (UTC)I did want to put in something from "Classic" DW as well, but I didn't have any caps and those that I saw around aren't great quality for obvious reasons and I think I'd have been here all night if I'd tried to clean them up a bit. So I went with what I had...
I didn't realise this until yesterday, but there are apparently a few new episodes of the SJA in the can, although no decision has been made yet about broadcasting them. That show has very quickly become one of the few "must see"s for my kids that the idea there won't be any more is going to take some getting used to :(
