Decisions, decisions. Do I squee and flail and generally behave like a demented fangirl at the sheer quality and quantity of hotness that was on display in this episode – first? Or shall I save that till later… ‘cause it’s gonna happen!

Okay, talk about the ep. first whilst I have a chance of remaining coherent.

Barbra Streisand loving, Michael Moore worshipping jackasses..… heh!

“Was she calling us Hollywood liberals or was she calling us gay?”
“It’s a… pretty fine distinction.”

Loved Matt and Harriet. I thought there was a spark between Matthew Perry and Sarah Paulson in the pilot and it’s definitely here in the second episode. Their scenes together were great – the part where she burst into the meeting (we’ve all seen it in the clips) was fabulous… and Matt (Perry) is so far living up to all my expectations. I’ve said to friends that I think this show will really be the making of him – not in terms of fame or money of course, but in terms of kudos, or critical success. There are people out there who know him only as Chandler, and I’d guess the movie roles he’s had weren’t that different (can’t say for sure, because I haven’t seen them!) but here he’s showing he can do the serious as well as the funny. In the scenes where he’s giving the writing team the smackdown, and the scene with Harriet after she interrupts him in that meeting he was awesome – you could really see the tough side of the character – the side that shows why he’s become successful and is so good at what he does. Matt is clearly supposed to be the ‘flakier’ and maybe more easy going of the two leads, but here he shows that he can wield the two-by-four when necessary and he does it with aplomb. (And it’s, you know, pretty hot!)

Jordan. Well, she wasn’t in this episode all that much, but what there was of Amanda Peet didn’t grate as much as in the pilot. The press conference bit was quite good and I liked the bit later with Jack and the ‘suits’ where she got their names wrong! And I felt I finally got to see a little under that unflappable exterior she presented in the pilot. In that, she was almost too self- assured – you didn’t get the sense that she was putting her career on the line by doing what she did when she hired Matt and Danny. Whereas, here I think a little of that started to come through, so there might be a glimmer of hope on the horizon on that front! I still like Steven Weber – he was fab and actually, he’s the one person in the cast with whom I think Amanda Peet ‘clicked’ in the pilot.

Danny was just… guh! So here’s where the flailing starts! – being serious, I love how he’s the cool and collected guy, telling Matt to calm down and that “it’s a clock, okay?” after he’s just announced the fact that he failed a drug test to a room full of the media. The way he and Matt interact in the scene where they’re coming up with the opening idea “You know who did the best frat humour of all time?” “It was W.S Gilbert,” was excellent, and as in the pilot, when they’re on screen together you can’t look away! Then the scene towards the end where he asks Matt whether he’s still in love with Harriet… wonderful stuff… (Matt, honey, you really need to learn how to give a straight answer, because it was obviously “yes”!)
Nice little bit of tension between Danny and Simon, too - and it was in one of their exchanges that we found out that Danny left the show as a gesture of support for Matt - it would seem Matt was fired then, and Danny left with him. (I think that much came out in some recent spoilers).

And I’ve restrained myself this long. I think we need to invent a new scale of hotness to describe Brad Whitford here, because I think the old one’s had it. Seriously. It’s only the second episode, and if he keeps this up, I’m not gonna make it to the end of the season alive! Danny is so far from being Josh Lyman – okay so there are the odd touches here and there, but then given how much of Josh was Brad that’s to be expected – but his whole demeanour is different –calmer, more collected… and he’s the recovering addict! But then, so was Leo…

What caused this week’s bout of spontaneous combustion though (well, the first one) was ‘take-charge’ Danny addressing the room full of writers. Kick-ass Danny = hot as fuck (as [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack would say), and I have to agree. (Same reaction to the scene with the cast members – more ‘take-charge’ Danny – even hotter!)

Second bout – the black short-sleeved shirt, the glasses up on the forehead, the running up the stairs… = ded in a puddle of lust.

Third bout – pretty much everything else about him. Smiles – dimples – glasses on the end of the nose, headset…

What else… oh, the G&S parody was nicely done (bit on the slow side though – take a lesson from Tom Lehrer, guys! – although I guess they needed the words to be a) singable and b) audible))… oh and I loved Cal winding Danny up at the end about having had a fire and only one camera working!

So a really great second episode – only another week till another new one! (Sand-rolling – squeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I’m pretty knackered, so I might have to edit this post tomorrow…

And for those who’d like it, [livejournal.com profile] teresadivicenzo transcribed the song text –

We’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show
Each time that we walk into this august and famous studio
We’re starting out from scratch after a run of twenty years and so
We hope that you don’t mind that our producer was caught doing blow

They hope that you don’t mind that their producer was caught doing blow
They hope that you don’t mind that their producer was caught doing blow
They hope that you don’t mind that their producer was caught doing lots of blow

Yes it’s hard to be a player when at heart you’ve always had a hunch
To bite the hand that feeds you is a scary way of doing brunch
But still when we walk in to this august and famous studio
We’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show

But soon when they walk into this august and famous studio
They’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show

I am a Christian tried and true baptised at age eleven so
Unlike the liberals, gays, and Jews I’m going straight to heaven
That if you feel you’ve been cheated and our sordid content lets you down
We’ll happily do the favour of an intellectual reach around

They’ll happily do the favour of an intellectual reach around
They’ll happily do the favour of an intellectual reach around
They’ll happily do the favour of a hundred dollar hooker’s reach around

(That wasn’t the same thing we said…)

They’ll happily do the favour of a frugal euphemistic reach around

We know the Evangelicals are lining up to tag our toe
And then the corporations will not hesitate to pull their dough
But soon when we walk into this august and famous studio
We’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show

But soon when they walk into this august and famous studio
They’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show
But soon when they walk into this august and famous studio
They’ll be the very model of a modern network TV show

Thanks for the song transcript. I keep missing it because the second they sing about Danny and the blow I lose my shit and dissolve into hysterical giggles.

's great innit? Sarah Paulson can't sing, but who cares? *g*

I disagree... she can sing... she was on tune, and on time... she wasn't a classic G&S singer... but she wasn't dog howling at moon bad either. She was a little unsure yes... but... she still aqquited herself nicely I thought

I didn't say it mattered... she just hasn't got much of a voice! But the song was funny, so who cares?!

Actually there are a couple of errors that I've since spotted. Will politely ask caz to change them. Am hoping that she is as big a perfectionist about these things as I am and won't mind!

It was a good ep, wasn't it? I thought it was a bit heavy on the relationship side of things, but I did love that Danny/Matt scene with the "It is if you're in love with her." ... "We are so screwed."

Hah. I still like Amanda Peet. (For what it's worth, so does my fellow Sorkin-nut in RL: my math teacher.)

I really enjoyed it. I'm still reserving final judgement on Peet, but like I said, I did see a glimmer of hope!

Let's face it, they weren't the D'Oyly Carte company. But they're not supposed to be. Damn near peed my pants when I heard it. Fabulous stuff.

I really enjoyed this episode and I liked the fact we were getting more of a feel for all the characters not just Matt and Danny.

he’s showing he can do the serious as well as the funny.

I really do hope you're right as I like him too much for him to be typecast as Chandler for his entire career. We saw him when he was on stage in London in "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and while there were echoes of Chandler he's much, much better than just that.

I still like Steven Weber – he was fab and actually, he’s the one person in the cast with whom I think Amanda Peet ‘clicked’ in the pilot.

Me too. I think he's terrific and she was a lot better, which considering how much I disliked her in the pilot is a good sign I think.

glasses on the end of the nose

Those glasses are going to kill me. And I agree with everything you say about the hotness of Brad *g*. Also agree about the terrific acting - I didn't see Josh at all, and I was expecting to a little bit.

I am still *ded* from teh hot... I've seriously given up wondering what the hell it is about him that... you know... and decided to accept it for the gift it is!!

I was so lucky this week cos I happen to be in Houston TX on a business trip so I got to watch S60 in real time on a tv and everything :)

I loved it... the G & S reference had me squealing with delight - the people in the bedroom next to mine at the hotel may have been a tad concerned :)

"Second bout – the black short-sleeved shirt" - hell yeah! the short sleeves had me squealing too... as well as drooling, swooning and hyperventilating; and I really really like "take charge" Danny..coloneljack's phrase couldn't be better :)

Thought Sarah and Matt were fabulous and really like the chemistry between Amanda and Steven. No, I don't want them to get together or anything but like the sparring.

Loved it... absolutely loved it!

A strong second ep, I thought, with some good dynamics established. And lots of Brad goodness as an added bonus!!

I think most of my reaction to the ep was, "OMGHESSOFUCKING *HOT*!" Repeatedly. *g*

Yes absolutely! I mean, I know I made it sound as though I paid attention to the rest of the actual episode, but really, I spent most of the time looking at one thing! Well, several "things" but all in the same place, if you see what I mean!
