I've been wracking my brains over this for MONTHS - and I've pestered most of the other WW geeks fans I know, so now I'm throwing this out there in the hope that someone in LJ-land knows the answer.

Are we ever told what Amy Gardner's job was when she was at the WLC?

I've searched through some of the S3 transcripts and so far come up with a blank.

Any ideas?

From Privateers:

AMY
Ma'am, I spent a year and a half as issues director for NOW, two years as political director of Emily's List, founder of the Democratic Women's forum, AA to Hope Schrader and Director of the Women's Leadership Coalition.

That doesn't really help though. "Director" ? So I'm going with either Issues Director or Political Director.

[livejournal.com profile] teresadivicenzo did say she thought there was something later than S3, but couldn't remember what it was - that was probably it, so thanks!

I'm sure I'll be able to use that - it's just for a passing comment in my next fic, but I'm so anal about these things I like to make sure I get these things right if I can!

I love nothing more than on-point details. If you're not going to get the little things correct, then you're just not trying.

I am SOOOOO obsessed with the little things, as my poor beta readers will tell you.

Hopefully the fic will be up next week sometime - thanks for the help!

Given that she is a direct liaison with Josh et al, my guess would be that she's the direct of external affairs for WLC.

At least, she does the kind of thing my boss does and she's in external affairs in a DC non-profit.

She could also be a legislative director - someone who guides legislative change from the perspective of a non-profit.

Thanks. I think I can get around it, but I wanted to check whether it was ever explicity stated. I like to get this stuff right if I can.

Glad to see you're writing! I'm envious -- I'm in grading hell.

According to: http://westwing.bewarne.com/amy.html
she was director of the WLC.

My experience with smallish non-profits is that usually a body wears many hats -- she did fund-raising but her main thrust seemed to be whipping votes aka political liaison stuff.

Did you see my lj post about Sara Botsford? Ha!

Did you see my lj post about Sara Botsford?

I did! How amusing ;)

Thanks for the info - I can work with that. I just wanted to make sure I didn't work around it and then have someone tell me "well actually, she was xxx, next time do your research properly!" - because, as you know, I'm all about the details!

Here's a quote from that page that might help:
"I spent a year and a half as issues director for NOW, two years as political director for Emily's List, founder of the Democratic Women's Forum, AA to Hope Schrader, and director of the Women's Leadership Coalition.... I beat back five anti-choice judicial nominees, got the Violence Against Women Act re-authorized with a Republican majority and raised $22 million for House candidates."

Since director was unqualified, I would bet that she was the Exec Director. This is also based on her office, and on how she got fired, because she serves at the pleasure of her board, and Josh went to one of her board members.

My two cents based on my experience in nonprofits of all stripes. :)

Thanks, Amy.

I'll go with "director" I think, because it's close enough (and vague enough!). Seriously, it's only for a passing comment, but I obssess about small details! :) Watch this space - hopefully, I'll be posting the fic in a day or so!
