caz963: (Eleven 2)
That was a great season opener - I just hope that part two lives up to expectations. The trailer certainly looked damn awesome.

I'm still feeling a bit :( after watching My Sarah-Jane afterwards, so I think I'm just going to go with a list.

Get me... coffee, twelve Jammie Dodgers and a fez! )

A couple of weeks back, I posted that I'd been listening to some Big Finish Eight Doctor audios, and wrote down some thinky-thoughts about the four series of adventures with Eight and Lucie Miller that I'd worked my way through.

I did originally start with Eight from the beginning (Storm Warning) but I got distracted by the Lucie stories and so I listened to all of those first and have now gone back to the beginning.

Look - bats! Great! )

I’ve just finished listening to Murray Gold’s soundtrack to A Christmas Carol and have a few thoughts to share.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been on a marathon listening session to some of the Big Finish Doctor Who Audios. Listening to them is something I’ve been meaning to get around to for ages, but as usual, there never seems to be enough time to do/listen to/watch/read everything I want to get around to and things fall off my list.

But - having listened to the odd one or two last summer I decided to make the effort and put several on my mp3 player – it’s a nice way of passing the time when I’m doing the ironing! Not being overly familiar with Six or Seven (I seem to remember that they arrived around the time that the Beeb moved DW from Saturday tea-times to weekday evenings, and I wasn’t always able to watch) I started with the Eighth Doctor. (I had a bit of a thing for Paul McGann back in the 90s. *g*)

There will be spoilers behind the cut.

Lots and lots of waffling about Doctor Who in Audio form )

Blink was on telly last night, and as a result the girls wanted to watch the S5 Angels two-parter.

What do you know of the Weeping Angels? )

Telly

I'm not quite caught up with this week's Outcasts yet; I've watched episode 3 and have episode 4 on Sky+ which I plan to watch later or tomorrow.

Having seen and been inspired by the housekeeping posts made by some of my f-listees, I thought I should probably have a look through all the fandom-related rambling I did in 2010 and see if it warranted organising. To my surprise, there was quite a lot of it.

Here, then are the thinky-thoughts, reviews, picspams, fanfic and meta that I posted last year:

You can tell I’ve either got time on my hands or that I’m procrastinating when I come up with something like this.

Anyway.

A couple of days ago [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes posted an excellent bit of meta about the Rueful Fate of Donna Noble in Journey’s End - if you’ve not read it, I highly recommend it – as part of an Unpopular Fandom Opinions meme. I’m not doing the meme, but it started me thinking, and I’ve realized that I have some opinions when it comes to DW that appear not to be shared by most of fandom.

For example, I don’t hate what is colloquially known as Tinkerbell!Doctor in Last of the Time Lords. It was cheesy, yes, but I didn’t (and still don’t) care – I liked it. Girl in the Fireplace and Blink aren’t among my favourite episodes of nu-Who EVAH! I don’t hate River Song (even though she was bloody annoying to start with!) and I don’t like Rose very much. That last one will come as a huge shock, I know.

But the Unpopular Fandom Opinion I’m going to voice isn’t to do with any of those. (And it's also nowhere near as good or as insightful as the bit of meta I've linked to above).

It’s this. I LIKE VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED

Allons-y, Alonzo! )

Okay, so there you have it - my Unpopular Fandom Opinion. I'm not expecting to change your opinion; I'm just sharing mine.

Having rewatched A Christmas Carol earlier, I've had a few more thoughts and think I might have been able to put my finger a bit more firmly on why I'm rather ambivalent about it.

I've only been able to watch this once so far, so my thoughts aren't very organised, but here goes anyway.

ChristmasTime can be... oh, you know the mantra by now. )

I've jotted down my initial impressions of the last episode. I've only seen it once and I'm sure there's other stuff I wanted to say that I've left out. But here it is anyway.

I wasn't able to watch on Sunday so I'm rather late with my reactions this week.

Okay, so it's a couple of days later, but at least I'm awake!

I knew I'd have a few things to add to what I wrote Sunday night about the first episode of Single Father, so here they are, in no particular order.

here be spoilers if you haven't seen it yet! )

Massively looking forward to the next episode - and I think that even Mr Caz was compelled by it, despite the odd grumble in the direction of Mr Tennant!

I'll end with the best quote of the day, from a not particularly positive review of the programme from The Arts Desk:

The American networks have so far been able to resist the stick-insectish charms of David Tennant, but the BBC would probably start up a new channel just for him if he asked them.

I reckon that if that happened, even [livejournal.com profile] hooloovoo_42 might consider it worth the price of her license fee alone!

Where do we sign up?

It's been a gorgeous day today - sunny and warm and more like July than ... er... July actually was. So we've been out and about and I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get a chance.

It's late, but I can't go to bed without a quick mention of the first episode of Single Father.

So. Sherlock. I’ll start out by saying that I loved it and am looking forward immensely to the next episode.

I'm not an afficionado of Sherlock Holmes, although I've read some of ACD's stories and remember watching Jeremy Brett, for many the definitive Holmes, on the telly in the 1980s. When I originally saw the trailers for this version, and before I knew who was behind it, I was going to watch on the basis that Martin Freeman had been cast as Doctor Watson, and he's one of those actors whose name will entice me to watch a show if I know he's in it!

The game... is on! )
caz963: (splody tardis)
Um. Well, I’m not sure what to make of that, actually. I enjoyed it, but – it left me feeling a bit flat, and I’m trying to work out why.

bang, bang! )
caz963: (crikey!)
It's taken me a while to cull my masses of random thoughts on the episode into something vaguely resembling a coherent post. And it's still probably not that coherent - more of a ramble about stuff that happened. I've only watched it once so far, so I'm sure there's stuff I've missed.

there was a goblin... or a trickster... )
caz963: (Eleven worse than aunt)
I've still got a smile on my face after that one :-) Moff & Co seem to have been saving up the best episodes until last (assuming the last two are awesome of course!), what with last week's wonderful Van Gogh episode and now another one from Gareth Roberts. I was pleased to see he was on board again this series, becuase he wrote two of my favourite episodes of nu-Who - The Shakespeare Code and The Unicorn and the Wasp.

For God's sake, KISS the girl! )
