Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] zinke

When you see this, post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress stories as you like. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

I'm sure I must have done this meme - or at least, something like it, before, but I'm buggered if I can find it. But I can say that any fics I may have listed before as being unfinished are now done and dusted (I hate letting a fic defeat me, and it hasn't happened so far!) - the ones I have languishing around now are ones I've started more recently and am having trouble finding the time and/or the inspiration to finish.

Of course, they're WW fics - and as [livejournal.com profile] zinke and I were saying last night, maybe it's becoming harder to write them the more time passes since the show finished. I think there's something in that and although we'll always have DVDs, finding time to sit and watch them is currently a real problem for me :(

Anyway, on to the fics. )

Oh, and there is a little something bubbling away that came out of a conversation I had last night, but if I post anything from that, it'll give it away, so I'll keep that under wraps for now.

So ... what should I attempt to finish first?

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then admonish your readership to do the same so you can find new stories to read and pimp.

Hm. Well, I've only written in two fandoms, so this isn't going to be a fandomly-varied meme!

ta-dah! )

Obama seeks some fatherly advice... from our very own Jed Bartlet.

BARTLET - Because the idea of American exceptionalism doesn’t extend to Americans being exceptional. If you excelled academically and are able to casually use 690 SAT words then you might as well have the press shoot video of you giving the finger to the Statue of Liberty while the Dixie Chicks sing the University of the Taliban fight song. The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it.

God, I love that man... (well, both of them - Bartlet and Sorkin!)

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

The characters I've chosen all come from films and TV - I was trying to think of some from books, but none of my faves have a name beginning with J! And I couldn't think of any female characters I like whose names begin with J, either. (I'm sure I'll think of a bucketload once I've hit "post".)

so guess who's up first... )

So if you wanna play, just comment and I'll give you a letter!

For anyone who's interested - or who isn't re-watching with us at [livejournal.com profile] ww_renaissance, I've finally gotten around to making a list of all the episode picspams I've done since we started.

It's here, if you're ever at a loose end :-)

... but I've finished writing those Primary reports, which has taken me best part of today and yesterday. And when I finish things, I think it's only fair that I have a little treat...

I know we're pretty much all agreed that Season 5 of the West Wing was... well, far from it's finest hour. More4 were rerunning the show from the beginning in a decent time slot until they reached the end of S4, and have now poked it in a very late slot, so I don't usually get to watch it when it's actually on. In a break this afternoon, I watched this week's episode, which was Shutdown. And remembered that while S5 has its problems, it also has its better episodes (of which this was one) - and that Josh is very pretty in it.

The one where the writers remembered that Josh is, in fact, very smart. )

Disclaimers: I own nothing, I’m making nothing… these wonderful characters were created by Aaron Sorkin and belong to Sorkin, Wells and NBC. I’m just taking them out for a spin and will return when I’ve finished with them. Although I might need to hang on to Josh for a while …

Being anally retentive about that sort of thing, I proofed it myself, so any mistakes are mine!

Characters/Pairing: Josh, Donna, Amy. J/D

Spoilers: Post series, so everything!

Rating: PG

A/N: Written for the 2008 [livejournal.com profile] sorkin_fest ficathon. The prompt was –

Amy at Josh and Donna’s wedding

- or Donna at Josh and Amy’s wedding. (Um. Yeah. Like I was going to write that one!)

A/N 2: Thanks and hugs to my fellow demented fangirls, [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack and [livejournal.com profile] zinke. They’re awesome – and they know why!

She was well aware that there were some things about Josh she’d never ‘get’, but there were some ways in which she knew him far better than anyone would ever have given her credit for. )

Just how stupid were these people? )

I've just come across this (and [livejournal.com profile] skywaterblue has posted it too, but...) for all you Doctor Who and West Wing fans out there - Catherine Tate would like to be the OTHER Donna!

I knew Tennant was a WW geek, but she's a Sorkinista as well, it seems.

Or, maybe, as DT suggests, it's just because she wants to play Bradley Whitford's girlfriend.

Oi, mate! Get to the back of the queue!!

There's a long list of prompts over at [livejournal.com profile] sorkin_fest here for anybody who feels the urge but needs the inspiration!

Sports Night, The West Wing, Studio 60 are all represented, so head on over and see if there's anything you fancy - and grab it!

Category/Pairing: Josh/Donna, ridiculously clichéd fluff. (Look at the date!!)

Spoilers: Up to the end of S4, I guess. Evidence of Things not Seen takes place at the end of March, so let’s put this shortly after that.

Rating: PG

A/N: I’ve been on a bit of an angst kick lately, so I thought it was time for some fluffy silliness.

It’s probably the daftest thing I’ve ever written. My natural instinct is to blame [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack, but then I remembered this: Who’s the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

So I guess I’d better shut up.

A/N 2: Usual plaudits to my ‘crew’ - [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack for putting up with my many insecurities and slapping me about when I need it, and [livejournal.com profile] zinke for her helpful (and far less painfully delivered) comments.

Did you know that April Fool’s Day is generally held to be a left over from ancient festivals celebrated around the vernal equinox? )
caz963: (J&D actually)
Here’s a little something written for [livejournal.com profile] ww_renaissance, where we’ve been re-watching In the Shadow of Two Gunmen.

Usual disclaimers – These guys ain’t mine (and oh, how I hate having to say that about Josh!) – they’re Aaron’s.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] christinekh for the read through.

To have a ‘new’ something, you have to have had an ‘old’ something. )

I watched Life on Mars last night - the West Wing episode, not the BBC series! and I was surprised by how much it got to me. I haven't seen that episode for a while, and I'd forgotten how much of an emotional punch it packs. When the screen faded to black I sat there almost stunned - despite the fact I've seen it and I knew what was going to happen in advance. I can't explain it really.

Also, I guess knowing that S5 isn't far away and that the summary butchering of the characters I came to know and love is about to happen casts a bit of a shadow over the end of S4.

Not that I'm an inveterate S5 hater. Of course there are things seriously wrong with it, especially at the beginning. I mean, Leo is practically unrecognizable; the way he bawled out CJ in whatever episode it was makes me cringe and want to scream. And don't get me started on Josh. And Donna. And Will! I loved S4 Will, but boy, did they screw him up.

But it wasn't all bad. Okay, so the resolution to the kidnapping was highly unsatisfactory, I still don't get the point of The Stormy Present and Full Disclosure was just - uh - to mis-quote Sorkin, forty-two minutes of my life I'll never get back. But we also got Abu Al Banat, The Supremes, Talking Points and the Gaza episodes.

I shall attempt to watch Jefferson Lives without throwing things ;-)

Other telly ramblings... )
caz963: (sucky watch)
Odd how these things work out - we got Holy Night a few weeks after Christmas, but Evidence of Things Not Seen was on tonight, not too far away from the Vernal Equinox. (Which is next week).

And you've got to ask yourself, if no one on the internet wants a piece of this, just how far from the pack have you strayed? )
caz963: (Josh WH b&w)
Even those of us on this side of the pond have been experiencing a strange sense of déjà-vu about the electoral race stateside.

The Daily Telegraph has neatly summed it up -

Barack Obama stars in The West Wing.

Did John Wells have a crystal ball? ;-)

Spoilers: up to the end of S2

Category/Pairing: The angst has taken over my brain. Josh, Leo, Toby, with implied J/D

Rating: PG-13 (language)

A/N: Takes place at the end of S2, between Bad Moon Rising and The Fall’s Gonna Kill You.

This is all [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack’s fault. I’m supposed to be writing smutty bubblefic, but no, we were chatting the other night, when I said “I’d liked to have seen Josh’s reaction to the news about Bartlet’s MS”.
And okay, so I actually said that, but this is still her fault. She encouraged me. Or something.

A/N 2: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] coloneljack for the head-smacking hand-holding and to [livejournal.com profile] zinke for helping me to see the wood for the trees.

What was it Leo said? He was tired of having to make a choice between the lesser of ‘who cares?’? Well so was I. )
